#5 The Masterians (An Entry of Scholastic Young Writer's Award)

My life had changed since the accident. Everyone keeps on calling me a monster. This happened on the first day in my new school. On that day, I was walking back from the cafeteria. When suddenly Denyse, jumped out from a corner, asking me money. When I told him I've got no money, he started to punch me. The pain was unbearable as he was punching very hard at me. I got frustrated and started to scream at him. Suddenly, I ........

'Sheng! Stop building castles in the air!' Madam Pauline shouts from the front of classroom.

'Madam Pauline! Be careful, later he'll do the same to you like he did to my brother' says Derek, the youngest brother of Denyse.

When I am about to shout at him, Sugein who is my only friend and only family, stops me. Both of us are like brothers. We are the same, orphans. Even in class we sit side by side.

'Sheng, don't do it. You'll only make things worse,' he whispers to me. I turns to face him, he is wearing a white T-shirt with a picture of a black bird on it. At first thought, it must be a crow. To calm myself down, I start to joke with him.

'Sugein, why are you wearing a T-shirt with a crow on it? It doesn't suit you. You are too cool to wear a T-shirt with a crow on it. You should throw it away,'

'Sheng, you just have to say it. I would consider in throwing it away,'

CRIINGG............

The recess bell rings. Everyone is rushing to the cafeteria like a herd of bulls. Sugein and I are walking calmly to the cafeteria. Our favourite food is a bowl of soup noodles. The soup noodles were surprisingly delicious. It looks plain but it is very delicious. No one buys it so we have them all to ourselves.

'Stand up, class,' says our class monitor.

'Good morning, Madam Pauline'

'Good morning, class. You may sit,'

'Class, today you'll have new classmates. Both of them are twins. Come in, girls,'

The girls walks in.

'Introduce yourselves to the class,'

'Hi, guys. I'm Rivera. Nice to meet you,' says the first girl.

'Hi, I'm Oceana,' says the other girl.

'Girls, you may have your seat,'

Although Madam Pauline introduced them as twins, they look different. Rivera looks nice while Oceana looks dangerous. I think they must be non-identical twins.

During period intervals, Oceana plots with Derek to insult me. 'Sheng, you're a monster. You shouldn't be here,' says Oceana. I try to calm myself. Then, Rivera comes to me. 'You're Sheng, right? Be calm. Oceana is always a bully in every school,' Oceana stares at Rivera as if Oceana is mindreading Rivera. 'Rivera, why are you talking to the MONSTER,' Oceana sounds very rude now. When I am about to stand up for myself, Rivera scolds 'It is distinctly beyond the belt already, Rivera! Just belt up! Sheng is the same like all of us. If he's a monster, we are monsters TOO including YOU,' The class went silent....... 'Rivera you don't have to have a row with Oceana just because of me,' She replies with a smile.
