"Get a good nights sleep." They had told me but as if. I tossed and turned all night until I couldn't handle it anymore. Slowly I crawled out of bed and towards the door. Everything was cold, that's when I realized the door that led to the balcony was open.
"Gale?" I asked as I approached him at the balcony.
He had his back turned to me and he didn't turn around when he said, "Close the door."
I turned around and shut the balcony door before standing next to him. The air outside was cold but it was a nice cold.
"What are you doing up?" I spoke.
"Listening." He said.
"They sound excited." I reply. The capitol citizens were having the party that they throw every year before the games.
"I want to go home." Gale says looking at me.
I stayed silent for a moment, I wasn't sure on what to say. "So do I." I said.
"What happened between us?" He asks. This took me by surprise, and honestly I didn't want to answer the question.
I shrugged.
"It's my fault." He chuckled forcefully.
I wanted to say, yes, yes it was your fault. But I couldn't.
"We were so close, practically inseparable. And I, I messed it all up." He said dropping his head into his hands.
"No you didn't." I replied.
"That's a lie." He says, "we both know that."
I didn't say anything after, there was just silence.
"Don't worry, you won't have to deal with me for very long." He says before heading back inside.
"Gale." I said but he kept walking. I didn't call his name again, or even follow him. I stayed on the balcony listening to the citizens have the time of their lives, meanwhile we'd be losing ours in a few hours.
