The Hunger Games - Second Quarter

Effie hummed as she slid the tape into the TV. She sat back down beside me and Haymitch.

The TV flickered on and it showed district 10, it looked similar to our district but not as dirty. The mayor said a few words and then their escort, Richy appeared on stage.

"Oh! Richy!" Effie exclaimed.

"You know him?" I ask.

"All us escorts are the best of friends!" Effie chirps.

"Ah." I reply.

The video they show every year appeared on the screen. Once it was over Richy announced that this Hunger Games would be a surprise quarter quell where two victors would be crowned if from the same district. He also said the capitol decided to mix it up and the boys names would be picked first. A boy named Brandon Brown was chosen and he walked onto the stage looking strong but everyone knew he wasn't. Then Richy called Phoebe's name. I admired the way she walked onto the stage, her face stayed natural. I knew already she would get lots of sponsers, she was beautiful. The front prices of her dark hair was french braided and pinned to the side of her head, she wore a beautiful blue dress that had a bow in the front, and shoes that looked as if they were expensive, they were beige and had a small jeweled gem on the front, and her eyes they seemed a lot darker but they were still gorgeous. She looked like she was from one of the richer places in the district.

"Was she rich?" I ask.

"No," Haymitch says, "She was poor but her dad was best friends with the mayor so they could get food but not much."

"What about her mom?" I ask.

Haymitch took in a breath, "You've watched my tape right?" He asked. I nodded, "Well, the girl from district 10 who died was her mom."

"So her mom had her at 18?" I ask.

"Yeah," Haymitch replies, "Its sad actually, her mom was actually a super nice girl, she volunteered in place of her sister, she was very good in training and earned a 9 in her private assessment, she made it to final 4. "

"Thats crap!" I exclaim.

"Lets not talk about what's crap or not lets watch the parade!" Effie claps.

I saw the tributes from district 1 first, they were dressed in diamonds from head to toe. District 2 were dressed like gods, they even had hammers in their hands. District 3 were covered in what looked to be electrical fence. District 4 were dressed as fish. District 7 stood out however, they're costumes resembled tree roots, the top being brown and stretching out to the bottom which was green and looked like grass, however, I think it was the girl who made them stand out, she was very pretty, her auburn curls fell down on her shoulders and her eyes were pretty also, she'd definitely make a lot of sponsers. It went on until the capitol citizens saw Phoebe and Brandon, they were dressed in what looked to cow leather, Phoebe's being a dress and Brandon's being a suit. Phoebe's hair was up in a messy bun, and Brandon's looked the same as usual. But something that set them off from the other tributes was the way they looked, they looked stronger then any of the other tributes, and their eyes, both of them had beautiful eyes, ones that you could see miles away. Phoebe gave Brandon a smile, I've seen this smile before, its the one my mom gave my dad, the way Katniss looked at Peeta, this smile meant love.

They then showed the scores all the Careers got 8 or a 9, the girl from 7 got an 8, Brandon got a 8 as well and Phoebe got a 9. The rest of the tributes got an 8 or lower.

"What cha guys watching?" Katniss asks walking into the room, her arms linked with Peeta's.

"Phoebe Willows and Brandon Brown's Hunger Games. " I reply.
