Lane got into his car and sped to the hospital. He ran in the double doors and saw Will and Isaiah standing there.
"Uncle Will,Isaiah,What happened?"
"Hank,it doesn't look too good. He was in a car wreck. The car flipped three times. Lane,You can go see him."
"Oh..okay." Lane walked towards his room. He saw his lifeless Grandpa and stopped in his tracks. He felt his heart stop beating for a second. Then the world was spinning and Lane hit the ground. Will or Isaiah couldn't get to him in time.
"I need an IV started." yelled Will
Will and Isaiah both picked him up and brought him into a room.
Lane woke up an hour later.
"What happened?"
"You were kinda shocked to hear that your Grandpa was not doing good."
Erin came running into the hospital with a worried look on her face.
"Wi-Will,What happened?" She stuttered
"Hank was in a bad car accident his car flipped a few times. It doesn't look too good." Erin fell into Jay's arms and started crying. Jay held her close and tight. He just left her cry on his shoulder. Firehouse Fifty One And everyone from the district stood in the waiting room, waiting for an answer.
Alvin Olinsky came walking into Chicago Med. He stood in front of Erin. She looked up and saw him standing there.
"Erin,I promise nothing is going to happen to Hank."
"Al,You heard Will. It doesn't look too good."
"I did hear Will, but Hank is the strongest person I know. If He doesn't make it. Erin,He died doing what he loved. He loved your children and he loved Justin's. He wanted the best for you and your kids and they got the best. I promise He would want us to not cry over his death."
"Al,You are best friends with him. He'd take a bullet for anyone in this room. He loves the kids. I love him. He took me in. I can't handle another death. It took me a while to get over Camille's. I can't handle another one. It was bad. What about Lane? Lane is his favorite and you know that. He loves Hank. If he dies Lane's done with life."
Lane tried getting out of bed, but Isaiah stopped him.
"You are staying there Lane."
"Isaiah,Grandpa is dieing and I can't go tell him bye. Let me go. Give me a wheelchair."
Isaiah walked out the room and grabbed him a wheelchair...
Lane looked at Hank with the machines all hooked up to him and started crying. He sat next to him. He held his hand.
"Grandpa,I know you don't like it when I cry but I am. I need you to get stronger so you can go home. I can't I just can't lose you not now. I just lost the love of my life. I can't lose the one person who'd take a bullet for me. Grandpa,I know you have the strength in you to wake up. I know you can do it. Just please be my hero. Be the person you always are. You've told me a million times I'm the hero but really you are. You are the hero. You believed in me when no else would. You helped me get over Matthew's death. Grandpa,You need to wake up. For Me,Lacie,Jessa,JJ and Juliet Bradley and Maddie. For Mom. She can't lost you. She just can't. No one can. I love you Grandpa and you are my hero and I'll always love you from the day I met you and to today. I will always have a special place in my heart for you. It will never go away. You have helped me become who I am today. You will always be my hero. You helped me become a Sergeant and I can't thank you enough for believing in me and helping me do the impossible. I love you Grandpa... Please stay with me and don't go."
Lane had tears streaming down his face. He sat in the chair with his hands on his head crying. He didn't want to let go of Hank. He didn't want him to give up....
Flashback
"Grandpa!" yelled Lane
"Hey Lane. What are you doing here?"
"Well, I want to be a cop and I don't feel like talking to Platt. So I decided to come up."
"Lane,I know you always wanna help out. But is this what you wanna do? Save lives miss your kids football games. Miss your daughter's ballet recital. I know you do."
"Grandpa, this is what I wanna do. I wanna walk in those doors and this place'll feel like home. I couldn't imagine working anywheres else. Law Enforcement runs in my blood. And I am proud of that."
"I know Lane. But do you want too? Risk your life for those that don't give a crap that your are risking your life."
"I want this life. I grew up in here. I spent all of Junior high and High school in this place right here. I wanna walk in those doors and know that I'm saving lifes every damn day."
End of flashbackLane remembered the talk him and his Grandpa had about 20 years earlier. He smiled then cried again... Erin stood in the window watching Lane cry, She decided to walk in. She stood next to the bed and held Hank's hand.
"Hank,It's me Erin, your daughter and I know you hate me and Lane crying but We are. Hank,I need you to be alive and wake up for me and Lane. It's not going to be the same without you and I know it won't be. I lost Camille and I just can't lose you. Hank,You have 8 grandchildren who love you alot. You taught Lane everything he knows about being a Sergeant. He loves you,I love you. You are my Dad and I'll never forget the moments we shared. I love you Dad and I can't thank you enough what you did for me when I was 15."
Erin couldn't bear looking at Lane or Hank. She walked out the room and into the waiting room. She put her head into Jay's chest and cried. Lane just kept his head in buried in his hands, until He heard the monitors beep and the line went flat. He got up from his chair.
"Grandpa,No!" He fell to the ground and started crying...
