I went outside to see the night sky.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed Rosie's number.
"Hello?" she said
"Hey Rosie, It's Gerard!" I said
"Oh! Hi! How'd it go today??" she asked
"Well, you see, we .... PASSED!!" I said
"Congratulations!" she said
"How are you feeling?" I asked
"I'm okay, I'm just on break at work." she said
"Are you going to quit tonight? Because you won't need the job now" I said
"I might just work less hours. I could still use the money" she said
"I see, well, I have a question for you" I said
"Yes?" she said
"Will you call us, or get someone to call us when you go into labour? Frank and I would love to be there." I said
"Sure! Well, um, I've gotta go back to work, I'll make sure I call you when I go into labour!" she said
"Okay, talk to you later!" I said and then hung up.
Frank came outside and lit up a cigaret. I pulled it out of his mouth and threw it to the ground, stomping it out.
"Hey!!" he said
"You have to quit dude, it won't be healthy for Noah and Amy!" I said
Frank rolled his eyes.
"I'm serious Frank. You have to quit" I said
"Fine. But only because I love you" he said, followed by a kiss.
My phone rang.
Rosie.
"Hello? Are you okay?" I asked, kinda worried.
"Um, Gerard, I think my water just broke" she said.
"Holy Crap!" Frank said.
I swear I thought Frank was going to pass out.
"Is an ambulance on the way?" I asked
"Yes!" she said followed by a wince of pain.
"Okay, stay calm, we'll meet you at the hospital in 20" I said
"Hurry!" she said
Frank and I jumped into my Land Rover and then I remembered : there's going to be two babies, and one of us needs to drive, and we can't hold two kids at once on the way home, we need someone with us.
"Mikey!" I screamed.
He came running, trying to get dressed in the process, I guess someone was having fun with Wren.
He hopped in and I sped away.
In my rearview mirror I could see Sarah standing in the doorway.
I chucked my phone to Frank
"Call Sarah" I said
"Sarah? It's Frank. We're on our way to the hospital, Rosie is going into labour. I'll keep you posted. Okay?" he said
"Who's Rosie?" she said
"the mother of the twins, duh" he said
"oh, okay keep me posted" Sarah said
"Watch how you talk to my girlfriend, Frank" I said.
He stuck his tongue out at me.
We finally got to the hospital and found our way to the maternity ward.
