Waking up, I suck in a huge breath. Blinked a couple times to clear the last of the sleep away. I was happy it was just a dream again. I've been having that same dream since as long as I could remember. Ray, my animal spirit, swooped down from the sky and landed on the windowsill, cocking his head to the side. Ray is a bald eagle, but not just any bald eagle, he was chosen to be my guardian and protector.
A knock at the door made me groan.
"Isabella, you better be up," Zach said. Zachery is my twin, only a couple seconds older but still rubs it in my face that I 'have' to listen to him. I don't.
He's also the brother I had killed in my dream. I would never do anything to hurt him, though.
"Zachery leave me alone," I mumble tiredly. The door opened. He poked his head in, a frown on his face.
"You know I don't like being called by my first name," he grumbled.
I shrug. "And you know I don't like being called by my first name, but you still do," I countered, sitting up. He laughed, pointing at my hair.
"You're hair looks like a tornado just went through it."
Rolling my eyes, I finish getting my clothes ready for today. Since we graduated earlier than the rest of everyone else, we have spare time, so we inspect the school every month and help the pack with anything that needs fixing. It's a pretty fun job. We have the chance to see our cousins and see some of the friends we've made.
I gave Zach a go-away look before hopping out of bed. I went straight to the bathroom and took a shower. As I washed my body and hair I also washed away last nights dream. Once done I came out wrapped in a towel. I washed my face and brushed my teeth and threw on blue pants and a loose black shirt.
Zach was already waiting for me in the car when I closed the front door behind me. There was no need to wait up for my parents since they'd left on a trip to visit my grandparents. I got in his Mercedes and closed the door while putting on my shades. We went in silence except for the quiet voice of a singer in the background. No words needed to be said between us. He knew about my dreams. He also knew what they did to me afterward.
After he parked he gently grabbed my wrist, instantly reminding me of the dream. I looked the brother I've grown up with right in the eye.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
I nod. "I'm fine. The dream just shook me a little, that's all," I admitted, giving him a reassuring smile when I still saw the worry in his eyes.
Nodding, we get out of the car and walked into Wolf High. Students were just walking to first period, but, like every time, all eyes went to us. They parted like the Red Sea as we walked the halls. It's because we're the children of the most powerful female Alpha and Vampire King. It's because we're hybrids; never truly a werewolf and never truly a vampire. We're different.
As if he could read my thoughts Zach grabbed my hand as we walked as one, moved as one, did everything as one. We've always been like that.
The hours moved on as we made sure everything was set in the right order and if anything else was needed. It was then that we caught the school's bully, Danny Mere, messing with someone. We were on our way out but when we saw that we headed straight to her.
When she realized we were behind her she turned around so fast I thought she was going to fall on her ass. Instead she gave us a charming smile, especially at Zach, although I knew she was giving him a different kind of smile. I really couldn't blame her, my brother was handsome. No, I don't check him out. I just know because ever since we were young we were far more beautiful than any vampire and werewolf. My mom's words, not mine.
