I woke up to someone screaming. I then realized I was the one screaming, so I closed my mouth and the noise stopped. What the hell was that? I've never had a dream when I was half awake and half asleep. Taking deep breathes of the cold air to calm my racing heart, I sit up with a bent head and hair shielding my face.

Then those words came back and I couldn't focus on anything else but his voice. What is his, is his life. What is his life, is his darkened soul . . . .

How am I supposed to know what that means when I don't even know him? If I can guess correctly, the person I'm talking about is the Alpha King. I'm guessing I'm the 'his' which is his life. And what is his life, which is me, somehow combines with his dark soul. Wow. That was easier than I thought.

A knock on the door was the only warning I had before the Beta came in and set a plate of food on the dresser. He just stood there staring me straight in the eyes as he waited for me to eat.

I blink.

The Beta then says, "The Alpha King orders you to eat."

I don't say anything. He stared straight ahead while I kept staring at him. We were like that for a couple of minutes. When he realized I wasn't going to eat he finally looks at me, saying "Follow me" and walks out of the room.

Shrugging, I follow him and he led me up some stairs that took us to a dining room where a lot of serious looking people stopped what they were doing and stared, blank faced as they watched us walk by.

In the next second I was moving so fast that no one saw me move. Their blank faces changed to surprise as they see me holding the Beta's fist with one hand. He'd tried to catch me by surprise. It didn't work. I let go of his hand and again moved so fast that even the Beta didn't see my leg go up until the tip of my shoe was mere inches from his face.

True surprise shined in his deep green eyes, making me smile.

Without knowing what was happening he flew back, landing on the ground a few feet away. He didn't know it but I did hit him. It just took him too long to notice.

That's when everyone attacked me all at once from every direction. I didn't miss a beat and spun and jumped and twirled. I finally landed on my feet as everyone fell to their knees, defeated.

Rolling my eyes, I look at a dark figure from the corner of my eye.

"You'll have to try harder than that, Shadow," I chuckled.

"That is not our Alpha King's name," Beta Ryan snapped.

"Try harder next time," I advise without glancing at the Beta.

Everyone looked at the misty figure with even more shock 'cause they probably didn't even know he was there.

I walk off, and was about to make an exit when the air in the room dropped.

"I'm just going for a walk," I tell him with a grin pointed at him.

There was no protest as I went through the doors and smelt my way through the mansion to these two huge double doors. I swung them open, taking a lungful of air and loving the smell of nature.

Without wasting another second I took off at a run, loving the feel of my muscles pumping and working to make me go faster. The feel of the wind whipping around my body and sliding against my skin felt amazing.

My running dropped down to a steady walk that made me grateful for the comfort the trees and forest animals brought me. I was just walking through some dark bushes until something caught my attention.

Right in the middle of all the darkness, one tiny green stem was growing out of dark ground.

That made a smile pull at the corner of my mouth. Getting on my knees, slowly, delicately, I touch the little stem.
