Elena's POV

I wake up cuddled up with Stefan, with only half of my body covered in sheets. It's not surprising as it was really warm last night so I probably pushed them off. Before I got to fully enjoy our embrace, my phone started to ring. It was loud enough so it managed to wake Stefan, who had started to stir due to the commotion. I sat up a little in order to retrieve my phone as Stefan lightly began to trace his finger tips up and down my arm.
"Who's calling you at this time?" I took my phone in my grasp and before answering, I smiled and pecked Stefan on the lips.
"Caroline," I said, feeling stupid that I hadn't already guessed it was her.
"Hello?" I answered down the phone.
"Hey, it's just me," she started. "We wanted to ask you something."
"Well good morning to you too. What is it?" I asked curiously whilst laughing slightly at my sarcasm.
"Bonnie and I were thinking that if you want to find out the gender of your baby, then you could find out at your baby shower," she explained. Today Stefan, Isabella and I were going to an ultrasound, where we get to find out the gender of the baby. I was thankful that Stefan was able to get the day off otherwise I would've been going on my own. But now I felt confused. How was she going to get it so that they knew and we didn't?
"Okay but how is that supposed to work exactly?" Stefan and I exchanged the same confused glance as Caroline started to answer my question.
"Well, we were thinking that, if you wanted to, you could get the nurse to put the answer in an envelope. Then you take it and give it to us, we'll keep the baby shower neutral and then we'll announce it with everyone. It's just a suggestion, talk to Stefan, and let us know." Hearing that Caroline had it all figured out made me release a nervous laugh.
"Okay, I'll talk to Stefan and tell you what we think," I replied before we both hung up.
"What do we need to talk about now?" And that's what I loved about Stefan. Even though he has the ability to listen in and hear our conversation, he doesn't. I've never done it to him and he's never done it to me.
"Caroline and Bonnie want to surprise us with the gender at our baby shower that they're arranging. But we still needed to discuss whether we want to find out or not," I said.
"Well, we kept it until the birth with Isabella, did you want to do the same? Or do you want to find out?" I questioned it for a moment. It would be nice to find out whether we were having our first boy or second girl, plus Caroline and Bonnie would be able to get involved this time. Stefan and I would only have to come up with one name for the baby, depending on the gender. But also, the anticipation was killing me, I really wanted to find out the gender.
"I'd like to know what gender our baby is," I said as innocently as possible. I smiled and he smiled back.
"I'd like to find out too," he replied.
"Yeah?" My smile must look ridiculous at this point, but I didn't care, because we were going to find out the gender of our baby. Obviously we won't find out today, but at least we weren't going to have to wait until they're born. He nodded in reply as we both leaned in towards each other. As if on cue, Isabella walked in whilst rubbing her eyes, just as our lips were about to meet. We both moved away slightly at her presence.
"Hey honey, are you still tired?" Stefan asked our daughter, who was walking towards our bed. Once she reached the bed, Stefan lifted and placed her in his lap. He cradled her like a baby as she snuggled down into his embrace. It's always the best thing ever to watch Stefan with our daughter. Everyone has always known that Stefan would be a great father, especially me. His dreams of parenthood have become a reality, and to think that I had some part in that makes my heart melt inside. It made me so unbelievably happy that he's gotten everything he wants.

But wait... what if he doesn't? Oh my god, I've never thought of that before. I mean, because he's got Isabella and myself, I assumed that he had everything he's ever dreamed of having. Before I knew it, a tear had slid down my cheek and onto my crossed legs below. I quickly wiped it away in the hope that Stefan wouldn't notice, but he did. I looked up at him to see him giving me a questioning but sad look.
