Two weeks later
Elena's POV
My eyes slowly fluttered open, allowing the sunlight to enter my eyes. I attempted to sit up a little only to be brought back down by a painful headache. I gasped a little at the pain and tried to divert my attention to something else, all in the hope that it would die down. I looked over to the empty side of the bed and let out a sigh. I missed Stefan when he was at work, I really did. I wore his clothes a lot now, simply because they smelt like him and somehow made me feel like he's still at home. Plus, I've outgrown most of my clothes at this point so it was just easier to throw on one of Stefan's shirts as opposed to riffling through my drawers in attempt to find something that fits.
The pain seemed to have subsided a little so I sat up, got out of bed and went to get my baby girl out of bed.
Once we were up, I basically did our daily routine which consisted of: get up, eat breakfast, get dressed, and play. Sometimes I was able to fit in washing and ironing, but that was only if Isabella wasn't being high maintenance and would play on her own for a while.
We'd been playing for a few hours before Isabella started to yawn and grow tired. I loved it when Isabella's sleepy since it meant that she would snuggle up with me and give me lots of cuddles. She most certainly did. We cuddled up on the sofa whilst watching Monsters Inc, which she's watched numerous times with Stefan. Once she had fallen asleep, I lifted her up and carried her to bed. I loved Isabella being asleep since I got time to myself, but on the other hand, it was too quiet when she's asleep. With Stefan at work and Isabella asleep, it was just me and ended up getting boring. I slowly walked out of her room and quietly shut the door behind me, making sure not to wake her. Keeping the noise to a minimum, I made my way downstairs only to feel the blinding pain in my head return. I gripped the end of the stair banister for support as my whole body became noticeably weaker and weaker. The strength of my legs dropped dramatically, unable to support my weight and caused my knees to give way. Before I knew it, I had dropped to the floor before everything going black.Bonnie's POV
I made my way over to Elena's since Stefan was worried about her being on her own so close to the due date. Caroline and Klaus went out for the day, hence why Caroline wasn't here with me. I couldn't believe that Elena could literally go into labour anytime now, it was weird how quickly time has passed us all by. We're all so grown up.
Once I got to her house, I knocked on the door with a couple of taps. No answer. I tried again to receive the same silence as the first time. I was assuming they're both asleep or Elena's upstairs and simply couldn't hear the door. Luckily I have a spare key that Elena gave me so I used that to let myself in. But what I saw was far worst than my first predictions of where Elena was. I gasped and immediately ran to Elena's lifeless body on the floor.
I gently shook her arm. "Oh my god, oh my god, Elena wake up," I kept repeating, hoping it would wake her up somehow. She was still breathing, although very shallowly, which gave me a glimpse of hope. I was guessing that she passed out or fainted since she was unconscious. Blood was trickling out of the cut on her head, I assumed she hit her head as she fell. Tears were running down my face as I attempted to stop the bleeding and figure out what to do. I seriously hoped she didn't fall on her stomach, I couldn't imagine how crushed she'd be if something happened to their baby. Thinking about that only made me panic more, which was not what we needed in a situation like this. Where's Isabella? I honestly hoped she was safe and sound in her bedroom because otherwise this problem has just become a thousand times worse.
"Isabella?" I called up and got no reply so immediately I went into extreme panic. I picked up my phone that I had dropped and quickly dialled Stefan's number. He picked up within a few seconds.
"Hey...Bonnie?" I heard the panic in his voice since I told him I'd ring him if something was wrong. I couldn't bring any words out, the only thing I let out was a cry. I was still holding Elena's hand as I squeezed out words.
I took in a deep breath. "Elena... please... help," I stuttered out whilst crying.
"I'm coming now Bonnie, don't worry, I'll be there any minute." I could hear the panic and sadness in his voice but, of course, he was trying to hold it together for the crying girl on the end of the phone. We both hung up as I turned back to Elena. I checked her pulse and thankfully, there was one. It's weird how vampire pregnancy completely changes how her body works.
Within the next couple of seconds, Isabella started to whimper and I heard the small rattle of the stair gate. Isabella wanted to come downstairs. I couldn't let her see her mother like this, it would kill her. But what really broke my heart is when she started to cry for her, calling 'mummy' all in the hope that Elena would return to her side and pick her up.
Thankfully, Stefan raced through the door, panic and worry was plastered on his face. He also gasped at the sight like I had. Before speaking he composed himself so that he wouldn't cry in front of me.
"Bonnie, could you calm Isabella down for me?" He said, however failed to keep tears from running down his face. I nodded and, still shaking, went up to comfort Isabella. Her face was bright red as she continued to cry for her mother who still wasn't appearing.
Within about ten minutes, she had calmed down and was curled up against my body. I was hoping she would fall asleep because I knew Stefan didn't want Isabella to see Elena like this.
Thankfully, she fell asleep and I sat with her curled up in my lap for another hour or so. It was the most painful hour. I was constantly worrying about Elena, I couldn't imagine what Stefan was going through right now.
"Bonnie?" That was the first time I'd heard Stefan speak since he asked me to look after Isabella. I gently but quickly placed Isabella on her bed as I went downstairs. My whole body was shaking because of what I might see.
"Yeah?" I said, more like whispered.
"Could you get a glass of water, please?" He asked, looking up from Elena, who he had placed on the sofa. I nodded and quickly left to get the water. I came back and gave Stefan the water, he held it with one hand as the other gently stroked Elena's hair. But that wasn't all I noticed, Elena's brown eyes were open looking at Stefan. She was lying on her side and was wrapped up in a blanket. The gash on her head was prominent but no longer bleeding and she had regained a little bit of colour.
I couldn't help but let tears fall seeing my best friend alive. I didn't think she was going to make it but here she was, looking right at me. I knelt down to Stefan's level and smiled at my best friend. She gave a weak smile back before whispering a 'thank you' to me.
"She's been in shock, I don't know what caused it but my guesses is that she fainted. I checked, and the baby's fine." He said, not taking his eyes off from Elena. I let out a sigh of relief after knowing that they were both okay. I nodded, keeping my eyes on Elena, almost scared to take my eyes off her in case something happened again.Stefan's POV
I sat with Elena for a good couple of hours after she woke up. Bonnie brought Isabella downstairs so that she could sit on my lap. I felt so bad for Bonnie, she saw Elena in her worst state and had to stay strong for her, even though it was extremely hard. Bonnie did go home about an hour ago after me telling her that she should get some sleep, she looked exhausted. She said she'd tell Caroline and Klaus once they come back so, who knows, we might get a few phone calls tonight.
When Elena fell asleep I took the opportunity to make us all a quick and simple dinner. I didn't actually make anything, I just put ready-made pizzas in the oven. Isabella loved pizza, just like her mother. I smiled at the thought but my smile quickly faded as my mind remembered the events of the day. Before I knew it tears were sliding down my cheeks at the thought of Elena being alone and hurt.
I wiped my tears in an attempt to compose myself. "Stefan?" I heard from the other room and immediately, I was up and walking over to her.
"Hey, how you feeling?" I asked, walking over to sit on the edge of the sofa and stroke her hair.
"Tired, I don't even know what happened," she said as a tear ran down her cheek. I gently moved to the floor in order to catch the tear and kiss her cheek softly. I didn't want her to cry, she's been so strong through this whole pregnancy, despite the fact that it's been extremely hard. I didn't want to see her in such physical or emotional pain, it hurt me to see her so defeated.
"I know baby, it's okay," I whispered, still gently stroking her hair.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered, bursting into tears afterwards. My heart broke into at how she thought this was her fault.
"No baby this wasn't your fault, none of this was your fault." I attempted to console her and watched as her cries died down a little. "I'm going to take some time off work, at least until you're better. I don't want you to be alone anymore," I said, anticipating her objections.
"You don't need to take time off work for me, baby. I know how much you love your work," she replied. Her voice was still a little shaky and weak but at least I could hear her voice.
"Yeah but I love you more," I smiled. Her beautiful smile widened at my comment, it was such a lovely sight seeing Elena smile. Her smile had the ability to not only make me smile, but to make my whole day better.
"I love you too, so much," she replied, still smiling. As I was sat on the floor, I gently rested my head on the edge of the sofa, and had Elena's fingers running through my hair. You could tell just by her touch how weak she was but I knew she was trying to hide it.
"Thank you," she said breaking the silence. I tilted my head a little in order to get a proper view of her beautiful face.
"For what, honey?" I asked.
"For staying by my side, for loving me as much as I love you, for everything," she smiled. I smiled back, touched by what she had just said.
"I'm never going to leave your side nor am I ever going to stop loving you," I promised. I'd never even think of leaving Elena, she's my everything and without her and Isabella, I would be nothing.
"Good, because I don't want to imagine my life without you," she replied, happy with my answer.
"Dada dada," we both heard from the kitchen.
"Stay warm and I'll get her," I said before kissing her forehead and making my way out. I laughed at the state Isabella was in when I saw her. She had tomato sauce all on her fingers and face. She gave me a cheeky smile and reached her hands out towards me. I cleaned the tray of her highchair before cleaning her up and bringing her into the living room to Elena.
At the sight of our daughter, Elena tried to sit up but gasped and was brought back down from the pain.
"Careful, careful." I said as I eased her back down, she badly bruised her side and I wanted her to rest.
"Mumma," Isabella said as she reached out towards Elena. I carefully placed her down and immediately she cuddled up in Elena's arms. I smiled at the sight of the two of them. Elena looked so happy to have Isabella back in her arms, it made my heart melt seeing them two together.
"Hi baby," Elena cooed as she gently kissed Isabella's temple, still holding her in her grasp. Seeing my two girls reunited after a traumatic day, for the both of them, brought so much happiness to my heart, all I wanted for them was to be happy.
"Mumma?" She gently placed her hand over the cut on Elena's forehead with a comforting and cute smile on her face. Elena smiled as they both cuddled up to each other.
"Are we going to look after mummy, Isabella?" She gently tightened her hug with Elena in response. I couldn't help but gaze at my two girls, all I wanted was to make them happy. I've never wanted anything more in my life, and I was determined to make that happen. I loved my girls so much, and nothing was ever going to change that.AN: I told you I'd make it up to you!
