Surprise visits

Mazy's POV ~
Athena sat gurgling happy in her bouncy chair as I sat at mum's computer working on my column. I had decided that I wasn't great at doing domestic work alone so taking on some journalistic jobs like mum seemed to pass the time. I had only been back on Bannerman road for 2 days and I was already missing the TARDIS and the doctor. I guess this one day a week thing was going to be a lot harder than I had originally envisaged.

"Mazy pardon my intrusion but you seem to be preoccupied," Mr Smith stated as I pushed my glasses up onto the bridge of my nose and squinted at the screen. "Is there anything I can help you with,"

"It's just mum and the guys seem to be taking a long time on their mission,"

Mr Smith didn't reply instead the computer gently purred.

"Cheers Mr Smith," I sighed sarcastically. "Such a reassurance," I added as I continued to type on the computer. My mother wrote articles for the local newspaper whereas I wrote beauty columns for a female magazine.

After about fifteen minutes of working on my column on nail polish for different moods I decided I wanted something to eat.

"Come on then Princess Athena, let's go get some food," I said as I removed my glasses and picked my daughter up from her chair causing her to gurgle happily.

"Oh it's nice in here," a voice said behind me causing me to whip around holding my daughter tightly to my chest.

"River?!" I frowned as my eyes were greeted by the sight of my friend. A small smile appeared on her lips as she made her way over to me after she placed one of mum's artefacts back in its place.

"So I had to come to see you seeing as you never bother to visit me," she twiddled with my vortex manipulator on my wrist. "I got you this on the promise you would visit. But no nothing-" she stopped mid sentence when she noticed the sleeping baby I was holding in my arms.

"Oh River I would like you to meet Athena River Smith," I smiled as I showed her my daughter causing her mouth to drape open. "Would you like to hold her?"

River held out her arms and I carefully handed my child over to her. "You named her after me,"

"Of course I did. We might not always see eye to eye but you have definitely been my only best friend. You supported me when the TARDIS changed me and you kept an eye on me when I ran off. It's just a little thank you,"

"Oh wow thank you Mazy. It means a lot coming from you," she joked.

"So little Athena here was wondering if her auntie River would like to be her God-mother?" I added as I stoked my daughters head as River slowly rocked her. "What you say?"

"Yes, I mean how could I say no to this little beauty?" I noticed tears build up in my curly haired friends eyes. "She's so perfect and so wise,"

"Well she definitely doesn't get that from me," I snorted "I mean who tells the love of their life that you want to go home and leaves them again after already breaking their heart? Oh yes me,"

"He knows that you love and miss him," River commented as she took a seat beside me on the sofa.

"You've seen him haven't you?"

"I may have,"

"Oh my god River did he ask you to check on me?"

"Can a girl not come to see her friend without there being an ulterior motive?" River said hesitantly, her eyes remaining on Athena who was wide awake at this time giggling.

"Not when said girl is named River Song,"

"I might get offended by that,"

"Go ahead that's fine," I laughed as I placed my glasses back on and continued typing. "So how's it going?" I asked in a monotone voice as I concentrated on the computer.

"It's great, one adventure after another. How's life back with your mum?"

"It's a bit boring actually. Everyone seems to be going on adventures but me I'm stuck here. I guess it can't be that bad I mean I have got Athena,"

"See it's great. Besides I bet the doctor has something great planned for you on Wednesday," River beamed as she bored into me with her blue eyes.

"Your right,"

"Anyways duty calls. Let's give you back to your mummy beautiful, so that I can go home," River said as she handed Athena back over to me causing her to her grizzly.

"Oh don't go," I pouted "I'm gonna miss you,"

"Don't be silly sweetie. I'll be back to visit again and besides you can always visit me. Our vortex manipulators can home in on each other so we can always find each other," River kissed Athena on the forehead before she pulled me into a tight hug. "I'll see you very soon,"

"See you soon," and with that River was gone leaving me and Athena sat on the coach alone.
