The Doctor and I

Mum

I lay on the floor of the attic still in my pyjamas with Athena laid on my knees. She giggled as I tickled her feet. My hearts leapt every time she smiled at me. I couldn't believe how much this tiny little being made me feel so happy.

"You are such a cutie," I laughed as I kissed her pink little forehead. "I can't believe that your mine,"

"Well, well, well. What have we here?" I heard a voice utter from behind me. Immediately I scooped up my baby in my arms and scrambled to my feet. "Mum!" Exclaimed the voice and I found myself being squished tightly.

"Astrid?!" I replied as I pulled from the embrace. "Oh my god! You're alive!" I looked up and down the girl in front of me. She was a the exact same height as me and her hair was dark brown. She looked a lot like my mother with her hazel eyes, my hazel eyes too. She was barely much younger than me by appearance. She looked about 15 or 16. I honestly did not look old enough to be her mother at all. I was technically only nearly 30.

"I had to find you Mum,"

"I've told you not to call me that Astrid. Mazy will do just nicely,"

"You are my mum though,"

"Mum?!" My own mother's voice sounded from the other side of the attic. "How can you have a daughter this age? What are you 16 or 17?" I turned to see my mum stood with her arms crossed and her mouth agape.

"I say 15. I sometimes say younger if I can get away with it. I mean at least I can get away with things because people think I'm just child," I smirked at Astrid's sarcasm but I knew my mother wouldn't approve. I watched at my mother narrowed her eyes as Astrid pulled her sleeves over her hand before turning to me. I offered out my youngest child to my older "child" who's eye immediately lit up. "Hello cutie pie,"

"Technically she's my daughter Mum. I went to the planet Messaline with the Doctor, Donna and Martha. They were at war with the Hath and they were using Progenation machines to create soldiers. They took a sample from the Doctor and made a girl called Jenny. Then they took a sample from me and created Astrid. She's a generated anomaly but she is still technically my child like Athena," I pointed to my baby who was being cradled by Astrid. "Actually she is named Astrid Sarah Smith. After a woman who saved my life a few Christmases ago on the Titanic and you. We wanted her to have special names. The TARDIS set up her records so she is my teenage daughter,"

"This is so weird,"

"You're telling me," my mum said as she looked between our faces. "So I have another grandchild,"

"I guess you do Grandma," I smiled widely as Astrid hugged my mother.

"Wait I know you don't I?" The question was directed to my 'daughter' who was laughing away with her little 'sister'.

"Yeah," She smiled. "Mum told me to come and keep an eye on you whilst she was away. Didn't you?" She turned to me.

"I sent the message through the psychic paper. I wasn't sure you'd get it. I didn't even know you'd survive but I'm glad you did," I gave her a little side embrace. "I was here every chance I could too Mum. You might not have seen me but I was. Even when I ran away I was here,"

"So we have both been protecting you without you knowing or us knowing,"

"It would seem so. My own protection squad,"

"I have something else Mum. Something to show you,"

"Okay. You don't have more children out there do you?"

"'Mr Smith can you scan me and Astrid," The blue beam flashed from the super computer and grazed over us.

"I can confirm the parental connection. Mazy is both Mother and Father to Astrid. They are both half time lord and half human,"

"Mr Smith! How is that possible?"

"The Tardis it shared something with me. I was working on the engines she opened up and a bright yellow light took over me. The the next time I remember was waking up as a time lady-"

"That's impossible,"

"Unless the time lord DNA was inherited from one of Mazy's parents," Mr Smith uttered but it was as though nobody had heard him.

"I think I looked into the heart of the time vortex. When Rose did she was able to bring Captain Jack back and to rescue us from the Daleks. It altered my DNA so when Astrid was made she automatically took on the genetic changes. I wish I had told you sooner or come to you but I was scared. It happened to me just before the Titanic almost crashed. I ran away a year later when I found out I was pregnant," I sighed deeply "Everything has been so magical and so dangerous. Half the time I forget what time period I'm in. I just want Athena to have a normal life. Astrid could also do with some normality too. Perhaps she could go to school,"

"I would rather not I have learnt so much in this past two years from traveling around than I could possibly from going to human school,"

"Now that I know you are safe and well I would prefer it if you stayed like that," I aimed my sonic at her vortex manipulator. There was a loud buzz as the sonic waves broke the device. "I'm sorry but you are staying her and you are going to have a normal life with your family,"

"But Mum..."

"Mazy is right Astrid. You will stay here with us and I will have to get used to having an older granddaughter,"

"Thank you Mum," I turned to the sulking teen. "And I will have to get used to having a gobby teenage daughter,"

"I guess that means I have to stay,"

"Yes!" Me and Mum said in unison causing us all to laugh.
