Where did everyone go?

The sun rays shone down into my eyes causing me to groan. I rolled over in bed and I felt myself descend to the floor.

"Shit!" I yelled as I held my knee and rubbing it as I saw a large bruise form. I climbed up from my position on the floor as made my way over to my daughters crib expecting to hear her hungry gurgles but instead, nothing. I frowned as I lent over her empty mouses basket. Thought to myself that my mum has probably taken her to give me a break so I mindless pulled my jeans and a blouse on.

"Mum!?" I yelled as I thudded down each step quickly, holding onto the banister to steady me. "Mum, have you got Athena?" Nothing.

I moved the curtain back to see that my mothers beloved little green motor was still sat on the driveway. Where was she? Where was my daughter?

"Hello Sarah Jane!" Rani's voice called as I heard the door open slowly.

"Rani," I said as tears began to form in my eyes. I couldn't believe that my mum and daughter would just vanish. "My mum and Athena. They've gone. Poof,"

"So has everyone else Mazy. They've all gone,"

I stepped forwards and pulled the teenager into my arms for a tight embrace. For a moment we just stood and sobbed into each other shoulders.

"I wonder if Mr Smith can help," Rani said trying to lift the mood. She took my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "They will be okay,"

"I hope so,"

We made our way up into the attic. It felt extremely strange that it was empty and that there was not a single noise that could be heard. I looked over at the computer to see that an article that my mother had been working on was still open on the screen. Athena's bouncy chair was sat right next to the desk with her comfort blanket laying on it with her dragon plush. I picked up the soft toy and it smelt of Athena and made me miss her so much.

"It looks like they were sat in here together this morning," I thought aloud as I lent over and saved my mothers work because she wouldn't have done it her self. "They have been taken,"

"What?"

"Mr Smith we need you," I said and as to be expected the Zylok wasn't responding. "See someone has taken them. Even Mr Smith,"

"This can't be happening Mazy,"

"Well it is so all we can do is think," I knelt on the floor and pulled out my sonic. "There must be a reason why we are still here. Something logical and obviously staring us in the face,"

"Sarah Jane! Mazy! Rani! Anyone!" Clyde's voice yelled as he audibly made his way into the attic.

"Clyde, we're in here," Rani sighed as the boy ran over to us and I found myself being pulled into a group hug. "Sarah Jane, Athena, Mum, Dad, even Mr Smith. They're all gone,"

"I know,"

"As I was saying there must be a reason why we are still here. If everyone in the whole world has been taken by aliens, why are we still here?"

"Well your a thingy like the doctor," Clyde said.

"A time lord but so is Athena and that doesn't explain why it's just us three," I retorted "When I worked for the Jadoon-"

"You worked for the Jadoon?!"

"Yes, briefly,"

"The Rhino space plods. Them gits grounded us. We can't travel,"

"Well there you have it. If you both were grounded by the Jadoon then that explains why you weren't taken," I said jubilantly "I am also technically a Jadoon officer so nobody would be able to take me anywhere without my consent,"

"Yeah but the real question is where is everyone else?" Rani sighed

"And who has taken them," I tapped my chin and looked down at my watch. "I could scan for alien technology,"

"I've never noticed that before," Clyde pointed at my wrists. "You wear two watches,"

"One is a vortex manipulator actual Clyde and the other is a scanner like mums but better," I opened up my scanner and set it to scan.

"How long will it take?"

"It could take awhile. I suggest you guys go have a look for clues. I mean there's nobody out there so you can't really cause any trouble,"

"See you later Mazy,"

"Bye,"

I looked down at my watch as I slumped down into the coach. I had no idea what I was looking for. The search had been inconclusive and I was a loss.

My phone buzzed violently against the computer desk and I quickly grabbed it. "Rani. How's it going?"

"There's these robots and this boy,"

"Another person?" I thought aloud. "Has he seen the jadoon?"

"No. He doesn't no anything about aliens. He is really scared and he keeps running away from us,"

"Right okay. It's him Rani. He is the key. If he is the only other person and he hasn't seen aliens then it must be him. I mean we can't be moved but he should be. I'm going to search for biodampers," I hung on the line a brief moment before my watch beeped. "He's wearing a biodamper that is why they haven't transported him. They don't know he's there. You have to get him to the robots,"

"Okay Mazy, we're on it,"

I had been waiting for a while didn't get a response from Rani and Clyde. Nothing and just as I was about to grab my coat the sound of a baby's cooing turned me around.

"Mum!" I yelled as my mother sat perched at her computer desk with Athena in her arms. "You're back!" I added as I pulled them both into a tight embrace.

"What happened?"

"I don't know you weren't there when I woke up this morning. Rani and Clyde came and we were looking for you. It turned out that everyone in the world had gone except us three and some other kid," I babbled as tears of joy streamed down my face. "I don't know what else happened you'll have to ask the guys,"

"Don't you worry I will," My mum said with a raised eyebrow. "Anyway I think this little madam needs her mummy,"

"Hello baby girl," I smiled as I kissed my giggling daughters forehead. "Let's get you some food,"

When Rani and Clyde finally returned that explained all about their run in with the robots, about the young boy being a king and about how they had successfully sorted everything together.

"I'm so proud of you both going it alone," I sighed as I hugged them each.

"Yeah well we couldn't have done it without your help," Rani said as she played with Athena.

"Well I barely did anything. I'm not that important or anything. You three are the A team,"

"You are one of the most important people in the world to me," My mum whispered as she pulled me tightly into a bear hug.

As I looked around my friends any family and I felt so loved. There were people missing from our little circle but I knew that no matter where they are through time and space that they loved me. I have the greatest family and that made me feel so very important.
