I pushed another branch away. Through the moist trees, I saw the sun creeping up into the sky. My dad followed close behind.
"Madeline, wait up!" he shouted as birds flocked in the distance.
I didn't stop or turn around. I kept walking from branch to branch. My foot slept on a twig, and I fell to the bottom branch.
"Maddy!" my dad exclaimed. "Are you ok?"
I looked up at him and finally stopped walking.
"I don't believe you," I bluntly said to him. "I mean, what the heck? Don't you think that I'm actually going to believe you're my dad? Only a fool would think that."
I started to walk again. Leaving him behind. I blinked once, and use was right in front of me. I took a step back in surprise.
"Maddy," he said. "don't you really think that I'm lying to you? Seriously, if I wasn't your dad, I coulden't be able to do this."
He waived his hand infront of my face. I felt the tingling sensation in my cheek again as the Capricorn symbol appeared. I pushed past him, and the feeling subsided.
"We have a special connection to the after life's powers," my dad said.
But I wasn't listening. All I could think about was getting back to Seattle, and back to Adam.
"Look," my dad finally said. "I know you want to see Adam and Alesa again, but take things one step at a time. Do you even know how to get there?"
I smiled.
"That's what mom always use to say," I thought out loud.
I felt a tear run down my face.
"I miss her to," my dad said, "but we need to stay strong, that was our promise to her, remember?"
I nodded. Staying strong for her was what always kept me going. Everytime I would get passed on to another foster family, I would remember mom's words, and keep going. Whenever the mistress of the orphanage called her names, I remembered mom's words, and kept going. Even now, whenever my dad parents wiped me, and forced me to do things I didn't want to do, I remembered mom's words, and kept going. But now, I need them more than ever. My dad held out his hand.
"Do you trust me?" he asked.
I nodded, and took his hand.
"Then let's go to Washington," he replied.
I felt my feet slowly get lifted off the ground as we soar higher and higher into the sky, to the north. Toward Washington.  Toward Adam.
