Blame Game

JAYDON'S POV

Sometimes I think Skylar has gone insane from taking care of mom for so long. I mean how could she say that about her own father, a man who has done absolutely nothing to her. First she lies and says he is dead, now she's saying he is the reason my mum is dead.

phone rings

And it just had to be Skylar.

What do you want from me, Skylar. I thought me leaving made it pretty clear that I don't want to talk to you, none the less see you!

You wouldn't have answered the phone if you didn't want to talk to me.

For a person who is calling me, you sure have the nerve to talk nonsense.

She sighs into the phone. I can hear how she's trying to stay calm. I should be the one who is angry, not her.

Jaydon, despite the fact that you think I'm lying, you can't just run away like that. Aunt Claire is stressed out and uncle Kurt is literally on the verge of calling out a search party for you. It's late Jay. Just come home please.

Why do you care anyway Skylar? You've lied to me my whole life and kept me away from our mother, then have the audacity to come up and lie about dad that way! I don't want to be around someone who can just lie like that about their family.

Jaydon I-

Need a ride? I turn to see my dad's car parked next to me.

Dad! Just the person I'm looking for. I exclaim.

On the line I can hear Skylar sucking in a breath.

Jaydon, no! Don't you dare leave with that man! It's not safe! Jaydon-

I hung up the phone, I don't have time for anymore of her lies.
I turn to my dad and he's smiling at me, but his eyes look tight, like he's been caught doing something.
I turn to look what's behind him and he jumps infront of me and changes my focus.

Hey, wanna grab some dinner. He says walking me to the car.

Sure, but hey dad. We need to talk.

His eyes tighten even more and he looks away from me.

About what? He says casually.

It's Skylar.

He coughs and clears his throat.

Why are you acting so weird? Ever since the phone call and he heard Skylar screaming through the phone he started acting weird.

No its nothing, I'm just stressed at work, you know. But it's fine. Anyway you wanted to talk about Skylar. What's going on? What did she say to you? He says a little too loud. Sorry, I don't know what got over me. Maybe I'm just hungry, let's go.

We get into the car and drive off. The trip to the restaurant is quiet. It gives me time to think about how I'm going to tell him what Skylar said without him thinking I believe her because I don't. I just don't understand what has dad done to her for her to act so disrespectful towards him!
