Grant

I noticed Gram get more nervous the closer to the house we got. I may have written his story but I didn’t know what he was feeling. Everyone but Gram got out of the car.

“Are you coming Gram?” Jack asked.

“No way, No how, Not in a million years”, Gram said.

“Grant a little info?” Jack asked.

“As in all of my stories Jen and Gram were good friends. Jen was that type of girl who lived life a little on the edge. She and Gram go to see if an old town legend about a witch is true. He gets turned into a dog and becomes Jen’s pet. He meets her wizard grandfather and they plot to get Gram back to normal. Gram tells Jen, A battle ensues, and True loves kiss brings him back and they live happily ever after.” I told them they both raise an eyebrow. “What? It was my first story.”

“Looks like he’s got a little cat in him.” Jeremy said. Gram responded with a growl and Jeremy backed away.

“Actually he’s now part dog. The side effects of the transformation” I said.

“Either way we’re going in. Gram stay here and watch the car. We’ll call if we need you.” Jack said. We headed in and I notice that is was as I exactly as I had imagined it. The living room and the kitchen were only separated by some counter tops. The stairs rose to the right of us while the basement went down to the left of us. Everything was old and looked like it would fall apart.

“Jeremy, Go up. I’ll take the ground floor. Grant you got the basement?” Jack said.

“Yeah I’ll be fine.” I said nervously. I opened the door to the basement and started to make my way down. There was no lights but I figured that there was one down there. I reached the bottom and slowly made my way to the middle. I walked right into the light chained and freaked out.

“Everything ok down there?” Jack hollered down. I calmed myself down and proceeded to turn on the light.

“Yeah everything is……..” I turned on the light and met the gaze of a pair of bright blue eyes. “Jack! Now’s a good time to get Gram”

Jack

Jen and Gram were sitting on his car. Jen was in his lap and he had a hold of her like she was leaving. He kept quiet.

“Please explain what’s going on?” she asked. Grant was also quiet and just stared at Jen. I nudged him and he was broken from his trance.

“Ok I know this sounds weird but you are a character in a story I wrote. Jack and Jeremy are the same along with Mikela and Melody. Everything was normal until all the girls disappeared. We’ve been looking for you guys for a while. Now can you help us find the others?

“Sorry, I can’t. They had a dispute on where to hide me and just decide to stick me back in the basement and take the girls with them. What’s the story on that Angel chick?

            “She’s a friend of mine” I said.

“Well let me tell you something…..” she began.

“Jen please be nice to Grant. He’s suffered a lot helping us. At lease be nice to him.” Gram said still holding Jen.

“What I was going to say was that girl really cares about you. You mean something to her and whatever you do don’t let her go.” She said.

“I wish it was that easy” Grant said.

“Let’s get back on track. Did they say anything on where they were going?” I asked

            “Nope, Sorry” Jen said.

“Ok let’s rest up and tomorrow the hunt continues”, I said. We all piled into the car and went to the nearest hotel and got rooms. I pulled Grant aside to ask him some questions. “What the heck is up with Gram? He was so annoying but now he’s calm and focused.” I said.

“It’s Jen. She’s a pacifier to him. She helps him keep calm and collected. He can’t think straight without her. He loves her so much.” He said.

“Just like the rest of us” Jeremy said walking over with Gram.

“Hey Jeremy. Gram. We were just talking about you.” I said

“We heard. By the way Grant. I would like that explanation you promised me.” Jeremy said. Grant looked puzzled then understood.

“Ok. Each one of you is a part of me. You guys were supposed to be me but after a while you developed your own traits. Each one of you have a specific trait that I have.”

“You mean when Jeremy grabbed the first two fingers of his hand. I did that as a kid.” I said.

“I’ve done it a few times” Gram said.

“That’s how you’re like me. I do that. It’s calming” he said. We all nodded. “No I mean more distinctive traits. Gram you’re protective of Jen. I’m the same with Angel. I can’t just stand and watch her get hurt if I can do something about it. Jeremy you’re compassionate, understanding, and forgiving. I and Angel have had a lot of fights. Sometimes…….. Most of the time it was my fault. But the times is was Angel’s I always forgave her. I listened to her. Helped her if she had a problem. I was there for her emotionally.” He said.

            “What about me?” I asked.

            “Love” he said.

            “What?”

“You show how much I love her. That I’ll stick beside her. Help her. Protect her. Because I love her.” I smiled.

“Let’s get off to bed. We need the sleep” I said.
