It was Wednesday, 2 more days to the end of the school week. Then two more weeks and SUMMMER! Ahh how much I loved Summer. You could go to the beach and watch all the sexy girls and boys prancing around in swim shorts and bikinis, wild parties with crazy bonfires, weed being smoked here and there. Ahh gotta love summer.
I was currently sitting in English. My favorite class, with Josie fast asleep beside me. I couldn't understand how she could sleep through English class. It was amazing, writing was amazing, being able to express yourself on paper with just words. Once I began writing I couldn't stop. Writing was how I dragged myself from my early stages of depression once Ember left. I wrote about my feelings, letters that I would never mail, telling her how mad I was that she left me. It worked, I kicked depressions ass, for the second time in my life...
The door of the classroom opened, catching my attention. I looked up and saw Sen's blue hair swishing as she closed it behind her. She handed a note to Mr Dolley and made her way to the desk behind me. I turned around, I hadn't seen her for 3 days. I was waiting for an essay explaining where her crazy ass had been. She leaned on her elbows and looked up at me, feeling my gaze burning her pale flesh.
"Hey Dawn, what's up?" she asked smiling. Oh drop it Sen, as if I couldn't tell the difference between a real smile and the fake 'I'm hiding shit' one. I arched my eyebrow at her, "Listen up you fucking smurf, It's been 3 days, where the fuck were you?" I hissed quietly. Josie stirred beside me, but stayed asleep. Sen shifted in her seat, her hair falling over her shoulder. My eyes fell to it for a second before Sen grabbed her hair and covered her neck. My eyes almost popped out of my skull, oh hell no did I just see that. I averted my wide eyes to Sen's who was avoiding my glare.
"Why have you got a hickey?!" I exclaimed quietly. Josie stirred again, this time waking up. She wiped the drool from her lips and with tired eyes turned in her chair to Sen and I. "Why are you so bloody loud Dawn, it's too early" she moaned rubbing her cheek. "Um Josie, it's period 4", "What's your point you reincarnation of Satan?", I shook my head at her, turning back to the topic of the point of this conversation. "Who gave you that hickey?" I asked again, Josie was now fully awake, listening intently, grinning sheepishly from ear to ear. "Ooo this will be good" she mumbled to herself. Sen finally looked up at us, "It's not a hickey, I hit myself somewhere".
I stared at her, bewildered she would lie to me. ME, someone who is a pro at lying. "Strike 1, two more and I'll drag you by your hair kicking and screaming out the door" I warned. Fear flashed through her blue eyes, I cocked my head to the side waiting for her to explain. After a few moments of complete silence, she spoke. "Fine, I was just messing around with a friend, that's all". "A friend?" I repeated, she nodded. "Yeah Dawn, just a friend", I exchanged glances with Josie and decided that was good enough of an explanation. Sen didn't do the whole relationship thing anyway. Not that I blamed her, it always ended in heartbreak. I experienced that first hand. With Taylor, the boy I once loved like there was no tomorrow. The rest of English passed in a blur, much to my dismay. On the way out, Mr Dolley stopped me, asking for a word.
"Sure thing sir, what can I do for you?" I asked smiling, he pushed up his black rimmed glasses, returning the smile. "Your essay on the poem you chose was," he paused, making my heart stop momentarily, "Beautiful, simply beautiful Dawn" he finished. I let out the breath I was holding, relief flooding over me, "God you had me scared there for a moment Sir," I said with my palm over my beating heart. He chucked, "Nothing of such Dawn, I always adore your work, now I hope once you leave here, you won't abandon what you excell at", I shook my head, "Never sir, English is my life" I assured. He smiled at me, "Music to my ears, I would be honored to write you a recommendation letter to any college you choose" he added in. My smile widened even more, "It would be my honor sir, thank you", "aim high Dawn, Harvard's Department of Literature would welcome you with open arms" he said as I walked out.
