Chapter 37

"Dawn! Can you please hide your tampons somewhere, they're creeping me out" Rome's voice echoed around the house. I laughed browsing through the channels trying to find something actually interesting. I've been living with Rome for the past two days now, and surprisingly I'm loving it. He's a very good roomie if I say so myself, well apart from the fact he complains a lot. It's Sunday morning, mom phoned us to come down for dinner today. At first Rome was hesitant about me leaving the house, but when I said mom was making chicken casserole he was all for the idea.

We were to show up at around 3pm, seeing as it was only 11am. We had a few hours to spare. In these past two days, Tommy and Kai have been out on missions trying to search for the 'Boss' who is still after me. I've sworn at them to drop it numerous times yet they just laugh at me and shake their heads saying,

"Let the men handle the dirty work".

Like excuse me? I started this shit whatever it is, I don't need male protection. Does it bruise a man's ego that much when a woman is in charge? Woman could actually accomplish a lot more than men if we were given the right to. Maybe if I get a sex change I'll be allowed to handle the dirty work too?

"Dawn why do you keep spacing out?" I looked over the couch at Rome who was in the kitchen shirtless, "Sorry, the voices won't shut up this morning" I said smiling charmingly at him. His eyebrows raised shocked at my answer, "The voices? Dawn are you okay?" he asked stepping forward. I giggled at his silliness, "Of course I am silly, I've come to realize they're actually nice people if you speak to them for a few hours since you're not allowed to leave the house you know" I ranted.

Rome glared at me finally catching on to what I was doing. Reverse psychology and shit, make him think him keeping me here is making me crazy. "I never said you can't go out, just if you do you gotta go with me" he reasoned, I sighed and got off the couch walking around to stand before him. I had to crank my neck up so high just to look him in the eyes I kind of feared I'd snap my neck.

"I feel like I have to be babied all the time now, soon enough you'll be going into the bathroom with me to make sure no one climbs out of the drains and kills me", I know that was a weak point but I had to think on the spot. I'm not good at that sometimes, Rome tucked my hair behind my ear and stroked my cheek. "If there is anyone that could take care of themselves it's you Dawn", "then why do I have to be here? Why can't I go out and do the digging myself?" I asked finally.

"Because I made a promise to a lot of people that I'll keep you safe Dawn, and I unlike other assholes, keep my bloody promises", "what are you talking about Rome? Promises?". This was all confusing me so much right now, what did he mean by promised a lot of people? Who else knows about the real reason behind this situation?

Rome sighed and led me by the hand to it on the couch, he said across from me and after taking a deep breath he began speaking.

"Before you came to live with me, Kai called saying you needed help. I called a meeting at the boxing cave, told Josie to gather everyone there. While you were being distracted by Tommy and Kai, the rest of us were there making plans. I don't think you quite understand how much you mean to us all, we decided that I should be the one to look after you. Drew said he would do the job just fine but everyone disagreed and said he'd become obsessed with keeping you safe, so obsessed he'd push you away and send you running", he paused and I took some time to process his words.

"Now while I'm on Dawn duty which I love don't get me wrong, Tommy and Kai are digging up info, Sen and Drew are stalking Keith, lastly Josie and Danny are at the boxing ring securing the place in case something goes down and we need to hide you off for a while" he ended.
