CHAPTER 2

I had only walked about 2 miles when I saw a minivan driving past me from the town screeching to a halt then backing up and rolling down the window. A gorgeous shock of black hair leaned out the window and under the hair I saw an even more gorgeous face but at 3 am it was kind of hard to tell.

"You need a jump or something?" He asked in this smooth deep voice that surrounded me. Obviously wondering why I was awake and walking down a highway in the middle of the night. I shook my head.

"Need a lift?" He asked. I looked at him wearily. He looked about my age and he drove a minivan so I didn't think he was harmful. I climbed in to the van and we turned around heading into town.

"Actually, I need a tow truck. My mom veered off into the ditch and we are now stuck there until morning but I was getting annoyed and took matters into my own hands." I replied honestly. He cringed.

"Do to an unfortunate turn of events the one and only tower in town has been hospitalized thanks to me, a few buddies and a bipolar vehicle. But I can just grab the truck and help you out." I must have had a pretty stupid look on my face because he looked at me as if I had a second head. "Don't worry I do this all the time. Towing people not hospitalizing them, I mean."

"Well, our car is pretty bipolar so I think I have a pretty good reason to be afraid." I said hesitantly.

"Is that what happened to your forehead?" I instantly brought my hand up to my forehead self-consciously to find it warm and sticky.

"Ugh!! It's still bleeding? What the hell?" He gestured to the glove compartment where I found several boxes of band-aids all varying in sizes. But because of the annoyingly large amount of blood I realized that I would have to clean it before I put any sort of bandage on it. A few minutes later we pulled into the small town of Little River. Even the name sounds small. He pulled into a driveway and I saw a quaint little trailer sitting there. It was surrounded by gardens of some kind. He cut the engine.

"There's a bathroom inside, first door straight ahead." He tossed me a key ring and by the grace of the porch light I caught it. The steps were not steep but I managed to catch my foot on the second step and bash my knee on the fourth. I am not even the kind of person who can make a trip look graceful so I just ended up sprawled across his porch. Pain shot through my kneecap and I cried out making this stranger look my way and see me in this awkward position.

"Shit!! Oh my God!! Are you okay??" He yelled out racing towards me jumping over the hood of the minivan, gracefully, I might add. He was at my side in a second helping me to my feet. Unfortunately, the second I put weight on my right leg I collapsed into him. This caused him to stumble backwards and fall down the stairs landing on his back and me coming down after him.

"Dammit!" I said totally embarrassed. I looked over at him to see him laughing uncontrollably. He brought his hand up to his eyes wiping away tears he was laughing so hard. After he could breathe again he rolled over.

"Are you very accident prone?" He asked between gasps for breath.

"More like a lifetime of bad luck." I told him lying on my side so we were facing each other. He smiled at me. I pushed myself up into a sitting position and saw the blood on my jeans. I groaned. He suggested getting me cleaned up. I heartily agreed. I went to hand over the key to him when I came up empty-handed.

"You have got to be shitting me!!" I slapped my forehead only to be rewarded with stickiness and a headache. He keeled over laughing.

"Oh God, that's funny!" I fell to my knees to start searching for his keys when pain shot up my leg again. Tears stung my eyes but I kept looking. He noticed my pain and started searching too. Five minutes later he found them with a victorious yell. He let himself in telling me to sit and wait. I nursed my knee until he came back out scooped me up in his arms and carried me inside.
