I slowly crack open my eyes, only to quickly shut them again. Way to fudging bright. I try to open them again, only to find the bright light again. Once again, I shut them as fast as possible, scrunching my face while doing so. Wait, am I dead? I slowly open my eyes this time, adjusting my eyes to where I really am, a pale blue room, laying in a bed. Okay, not dead. But of course. A hospital. Ugh, I hate hospitals. Like, sure, it's where children are born, but the place reeks of death, and it always smells like bleach and has nasty food. No offense hospitals, but you kinda suck. Other than the life saving part.
I blink multiple times before adjusting myself in the oh-so-comfortable hospital bed. Note the sarcasm. I look around the room, first to settle my gaze on a nurse in the room. Red hair in a bun, green eyes, pale with freckles, normal pale pink nurse outfit. She's holding a clipboard, jotting stuff down onto the clipboard. She looks up and we make eye contact, making her freeze. She just stands there, looking at me. Scratch that, hardcore staring at me. She looks me up and down, before slowly walking out of the room, still facing me. Then she quickly runs down the hall, out of my sight.
Wait, do I have something on my face? I quickly wipe my hand over my face, not finding anything so I just shake it off.(A/N:Don't think of the song, I beg of you) I run my other hand hand through my hair, finding it to be completely knotted and tousled, and my arm to hurt. Really bad. I sigh and drop my hand. I look around again, hoping to not encounter anyone else. Apparently, that hasn't been going to well for me. Even though I've only been awake for about, one minute. Maybe two. I look at the wires to my left, which are connected to an IV with an IV bag on it. I look at my bed sheets, which look almost untouched, other than that I'm underneath them. Apparently I've had a visitor, because there are some roses beside my bed, and pokémon get well soon card. Welp, Jay has been here.
I pick up the card, and of course, it has the generic, "I hope you get better!" "Can't wait to see you and the guys once you all get better! Sincerely, Jay.<3" Me either, Jay. I've only seen one person and they already seem to- dislike me. I sigh and set the card back down as it was, and reach my hand out to look at one of the roses. But I'm interrupted, as I see a doctor and the small nurse beside him, watching me from outside the glass window. I look back at the rose and grab it, debating on if I should make it clear that I see them. Or, if I should just watch them and see what they do.
I decide on just watching them, and pretend to be observing the rose. I don't even look at them, I can hear their conversation. "How is he awake so early? He's supposed to be in a coma! This has never happened bef-" the woman gets cut off, and the man starts talking."Angela, this is a good thing. You need to calm down. This is just, a miracle at best. Just, take care of him as told. Understand?" He says calmly, I can tell he's looking directly at me right now. "Y-Yes sir." She says shakily, I'm assuming she's like that because if she fudges up on the job with her boss around, it's make or break. I hear her quiet footsteps enter the room, so I pretend to be startled by her and set the rose down on the bed-side table with the other roses and the card.
"Oh, I'm sorry for scaring you. I came to apologize for my behavior," She starts, and I raise an eyebrow, "It wasn't expected that you wake up anytime soon." She ends, setting her clipboard down on one of the hospital chair's arms. "How long have I been out?" I ask, and she doesn't even think. "Almost 15 hours, Mr....." She leads on, leaning over to look at her clipboard. "Power." I answer for her, and she smiles, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. "Well, Mr.Power, I hope you enjoy your time here. If your recovery goes as planned, you will leave in about a week." She chirps, and I pause. "What am I recovering from, exactly? I know most of what happened, but I'm not sure about the injuries." I say, looking at her.
"Well, according to your friend," She pauses, "Preston, That's right. Anyways, He said that after the car accident, you were already injured, and then directly stricken lightning-" I cut her off, "What?!" I ask, looking at her crazily. "That's one of the reasons we didn't expect you to wake up anytime soon. You had many burns, and your abdomen was already hurt. So, you were expected to be in a coma due to over exhaustion and lack of oxygen. You also tore a few muscles in your arms, but..." She picks up her clipboard and skims through it, "That seems to be all." She smiles. "But-" I stop looking down. "Shouldn't I be dead?" I ask, looking back up at her. She pauses and tries to avoid eye contact. "Well- yes, you should be- since it was a direct strike- but it was a life-saving miracle." She finishes, putting the clipboard up to her chest. "Well, I must be going, I have other patients that I must see. Have a good night Mr.Power!" She says, hastily walking out of the room.
As to you too, Angelina. Is there anything to occupy my time in here? I mean, my phone probably is like, dead forever, and I don't think they have any books or magazines here. I look around the room. No they do not. I sigh and sit my head back, resting it on top of the pillow. Maybe I could ask for a phone... Or I could ask if Preston's here. Since he was definitely awake, last time I saw him. Maybe I'll just do both. There was a little button to my side, I think it was called a nurse button. I tapped it, and a few seconds later another woman hastily walked into the room. She was a little taller than the other woman, but she was a brunette with blue eyes. "Hello! You needed something?" She asks. "Uh, yeah. I was wondering if Preston Arsement had been checked out yet?" She seemed to think for a moment. "Did he have brown hair, black shirt with flames on it?" I perked up. "Yep, that's him." "Oh yes, he checked out about 2 hours ago. I took care of him, he was very nice. Is he a friend of yours?"
"Oh, yeah. We were in the same car during the car crash." She seemed to sadden a little. "I'm very sorry about that." There was a long pause. "Oh, and do you have a phone, by any chance? I would like to call a few friends..." I led off, and she nodded. "There's a wireless one by your bed, but it looks like it's just out of your arms reach." She steps over and hands it to me, and I smile at her. "My pleasure." she starts to walk out of the room, before stopping and turning around right before the door. "Oh, I'll be your caretaker for the night. I'm Charlotte." She says, smiling. "Lachlan." She nods, before leaving the room. Well, I guess it's time that I give Jay and Preston a call.
