I step back into the kitchen finding all the guys there bantering about, and stop as I step forward. "Dude, you missed the best thing ever!" Jerome yells. "What did I miss exactly?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. He points at Mitch and grins stupidly. "Mitch just sneezed milk!" I make a face of disgust. "That's disgusting!" Jerome smiles wider and raises his arms. "I know right!" I roll my eyes and can't help but grin, and sit back down at the island. "Also, did you cook the food?" Vikk asks looking at me. I nod, and he groans. He pulls a 20 from his pocket and passes it to Jerome. Jerome snickers while smirking, putting the money in his pocket. I roll my eyes. "Why is it a surprise that I cook!?" I yell sarcastically. "It's just-" Preston stops, thinking. "Strange." He emphasizes. I narrow my eyes. Does he think that really answered my question? "Nah, really though, why is it so-" I hold my hands up and make air quotations,"strange?" I ask.
They all exchange looks. "It's just weird, you never cook or get up early. It's just-" Rob gets cut off by Preston, who simply says, "Strange." I face-palm. Seriously, these people have no reasoning whatsoever. I run a hand through my hair. "Well, I thought it would be the nice thing to do. You had to stay with me in the-" God awfully boring, "Hospital. So I thought I may as well try and repay the favor by making everyone's breakfast. Happy?" I explain, and they all nod. Preston pretends to blush and holds his hand out, and starts fanning it 'strangley'. He kind of looks like a disabled dinosaur. "Aw alfalfa, you didn't have to." He teases. I roll my eyes and chuckle.
I notice the others grabbing food, running to the microwave to heat their food up first. Mitch and Rob just end up breaking their plates as they crash into each other, and groaning while cleaning up the food and glass together. And for some reason, they continue to groan. For like, 5 minutes straight. I just stare at them, as well as the others, as their groaning continues. "Okay, shut up!" Vikk yells, holing his fork in their direction. "Its 2 plates!" He yells. "But the foo-" Mitch gets cut off by Vikk once again, "There's more food!" He yells, stabbing some food on his place and eating it, glaring at them as he chews. They stop groaning, and Rob quietly giggles as he grabs his food from the microwave. He sits down, as Mitch heats up his food. "Why do our conversations always end up so weird?" Rob asks, picking at his plate. I lean my elbows on the table, and sigh. "Not sure." I reply. "Wow, thanks." Rob says sarcastically.
"Maybe because I'm so strange." I joke. Preston laughs at his joke, and makes an over dramatic sigh. He sets his empty plate in the sink, and sits back down. "Why didn't you make more food?" He asks. I look at him as if he's crazy. "I literally cooked everything he had, which includes some of the things you bought." He groans. Oh god not that again. "We should've gotten more food, this won't sustain six men for even a day!" He yells. "But you got gummies! That's all we need!" Jerome cheers. "If I remember correctly; Preston was in charge of shopping. So basically, it's his fault we don't have any food." Rob explains, and we all look at Preston. "Robert Aaron Latsky! How dare you sell me out like that!?" Preston exclaims, putting a hand on his chest with an offended look on his face. "Well Preston Blaine Arsement, that's because Canadians do what they want." Rob smirks, fist bumping Mitch as he sits down. Preston sighs in defeat, and blows aside the hair dangling in front of his face.
"And Jeroommmmeeee!" Jerome butts into the silence, making me snort. "And then there's Jerome." Mitch laughs. We all snicker, before going back into an awkward silence. I cough, and Rob soon catches on, clearing his throat. Vikk soon looks up and exchanges glances with both of us, before clearing his throat. "Sooooo" Vikk starts, hoping someone would catch on. It takes a moment, but Jerome figures it out. "So Lachlan," Jerome starts, smirking at me. I hum in response, as he asks me. "Who was the hot brunette nurse that took care of you?" He asks. Should've seen this coming. I pause, remembering her."Well- she was really nice." I say, looking at him. "And?" He asks. "Annnnddd she was really pretty?" What the hell is he looking for from me? "Nothing else to say about her?" He questions. I stare at him for a moment, trying to read his expression. "What do you want from me?!" I ask. "She had a nice personality too. Nice, pretty, funny. That's it!" I exclaim. He puts his hands up defensively. "I was going to ask if you liked her, but okay." He explains. I rub my temples. "I live in Australia." I complain.
"Long distance relationships aren't that bad." I hear him mutter. "Long distance relationships are that bad when one of you lives in the states and the other lives in Australia." I glance back up at him, to see everyone staring at me with wide/confused eyes. "What?" I ask. "What do you mean 'Long Distance relationships?'" Rob asks. I raise an eyebrow. "Well, Jerome said long distance relationships 'aren't that bad'.... so I said they were in my case." I lead , looking at all of them. I look at Jerome's face, which has complete and utter disbelief written all over it. "I never said anything." He says cautiously. I make a face of, 'Yes you fudging did,' and squint my eyes at him. "Lachlan, he literally didn't say anything." Rob says, dead serious. Hold on, what? He said it! I heard him! But I didn't see it.... ugh, this again. "I swear he did! I heard him say it!" I say holding my hand out towards him, my accent clear. "Nah dude, you're insane. He legit said nothing. Maybe you imagined him saying it?" Mitch shrugs, taking another bite of his food.
"But- the pizza guy did it too! He said he was forgetting something and I reminded him of the cheese sticks, but he looked at me like I was absolutely insane." I mention, running a hand through my hair, before hearing Jerome say, "Maybe he is insane." I straighten myself and point at him, balancing my elbow on the table. I narrow my eyes, "I am not insane." Jerome, once again, looks at me like I just grew wings. "I groan and rub my temples. "You didn't say anything....did you." I ask, regretting saying anything in the first place. "But I did think it." Jerome points out, sounding astonished. "What?" I say looking up. "That's what I was thinking. And I was thinking that long distance relationships weren't so bad." I squint at him, and put my hands on my cheeks, holding my head up. I hear Preston gasp, and I watch as he slaps his hands on his cheeks. "TELEPATHY!" He laughs, and does his 'gasping for air' laugh. "Okay Okay, I get it." I groan, putting my forehead on the table.
"Wait wait, Lachlan. What am I thinking about?" Vikk asks. I glance up at him, as I hear 'In the arms of an angel' playing faintly from his direction. I roll my eyes. Cliché, Vikk. "When Nati died." I answer plainly. He pushes his chair in with an annoyingly loud grinding noise against the floor and puts his arms up. As he starts going out the front door, he stops and turns around and yells, "I'm out!" He closes the door, leaving us to laugh. He comes back in, and sits down, instantly questioning me. "How?" He asks. "How am I supposed to know?!" I yell. "Oh Oh! What am I thinking!" Preston blurts out. The memory of a disgusting stench comes to mind as I look at Preston. Ew, really? "And why are you thinking of Arm-esan?" I ask, crinkling my nose.(A/N: If you get that joke, you're the real mvp) He laughs, and gestures to Mitch. "Read Mitch's mind! Read Mitch's mind!" He cheers. Mitch looks up confused and furrows his eyebrows. "Why me?!" He asks. "Guys, should I really be playing around like this? I mean- Isn't this bad?" I question, sinking into my seat.
"Bad?! This is amazing! This is like-" Preston gets cut off. "This breaks all the physics!" Jerome screams, slamming his fists down onto the table. "Exactly my point. Shouldn't we be like- researching this or something? Try to find out how it happened?" I question. "I'll go set up the computer?" Mitch suggests, and we all offer to help. I hear Mitch mutter something, and I can't help but say something, "We're not jags." I say. He rolls his eyes, and I quickly add in, "Except Preston." I smirk. He laughs and Preston yells a 'Hey!' We all laugh, and make our way to the computer. "Why do I always get roasted!?" Preston whines. "You're a lava-mob, it's your nature." I joke. He groans, and we start to unpack the monitors, attempting to piece it together.
Maybe I can just pretend it isn't happening anymore. Maybe I can try to hide it. I can try, can't I?
