I dial Preston's number, immediately knowing it due to the millions of times I've had to call him. Mostly because he's been late on a recording. After a few rings, he picks up. "Hello?" "Hey Preston!" "Oh, hey dude! You're already awake?" "Y'know what, no man, not yet. Just give me a few more hours." I hear him chuckle on the other line, and clear his throat. "So, how are you feeling?" "Mostly sore, and tired, yet energetic at the same time. That's practically it." "Huh. Weird." He huffs, making us go silent for a minute.
"Hey- how are the others? I was almost certain the nurses wouldn't know, and I knew you were already out." I ask. "Vikk's asleep, Mitch is awake, he got a minor concussion. Jerome's awake, he should be released soon. Rob's awake, he's really nauseous, apparently." I can just imagine Preston counting on his fingers right now, with the phone on his shoulder. Anyways, Thank god they're all okay. I mean, I don't know what I would do if something bad had happened to them. "How about injury wise?" "Like I said, Mitch has a concussion, Vikk broke his hand," Called it. "Jerome fractured his femur, if I remember correctly. And Rob pulled a few muscles, I think. Not sure how he managed that one, but whatever he wants to do." He laughs, and I lightly chuckle. "You're okay too, right?" "Oh yeah. I'm just a little bruised, but that's it." He says, I sigh in relief.
"It could be a lot worse, all of us are okay. I mean- it wasn't too bad, but it was a crash none the less." I stop. "Dude, you got struck by lightning! What do you mean it "wasn't that bad?" I hear him shout from the other end of the phone. I think for a second. "Hey, we're all alive!" I shout, gaining attention from a nurse outside the door. I mutter a sorry and she gives me a dirty look. Ah, knew there had to be at least one rude person here. It was getting kind of freaky with everyone being nice. Unnatural. "Lachlan? What'd you say?" I hear Preston squeak from the speaker of the phone. I press it back up against my ear. "Oh- sorry. Someone was 'disturbed' by my shouting." I mock. He snorts. "Disturbed. Nice." "Thanks, I try." I pause for a minute, before speaking back up. "Well, I'll talk to you later. I have to spend another week in this place, at least." I sigh, and he makes an annoyed white girl noise. "What?! Don't worry, I'll be sure to sneak you in a cactus to keep you company." "Wow, thanks." "No problem. Name him Preston." I giggle. "Well, I'll talk you later Plebston!" "Ok, by- WAIT A MINUTE!" I laugh, before hanging up the phone.
That little cactus. I shift uncomfortably in my bed one again. THESE BEDS ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS, I'M GONNA BE AN INSOMNIAC BY THE TIME I LEAVE THIS PLACE! I shake my head, dismissing the thought. I almost get out of the bed, before stopping myself. Just kidding, an alarm will go off, and 'I might collapse.' At least, that's what the nurses usually say. "You'll hurt yourself, Blah blah blah" Like, I'm not gonna hurt myself. I push myself back into the bed, and hurt my hand, which shoots pain up my arm. OWOWOWOWOW, okay, not getting out of bed anymore. Karma. Bad idea, Lachlan. I get into a comfortable position, and lay on my side. Well- the best position I'm gonna get comfort wise. Y'know what. I just forget about comfort, stretch my arms out, and get into my desired sleeping position. Aka, like a starfish. I wonder what part of the hospital everyone's in, or when they all get to get out...Other than Jerome and Preston, of course. But, what if they all get out, and are forced to stay here because I'm still here? I could just tell them to go ahead. But then I would miss out... LACHLAN, CALM DOWN. YOU'RE GONNA BE HERE. FOR A WEEK. YOU'RE ALREADY THINKING OF WORST CASE SCENARIOS. ON THE FIRST DAY YOU'VE BEEN HERE. I sigh. Man, I really need some sleep. I'm acting like the world is gonna end. I close my eyes as the world begins to darken, and drift off to sleep.
I wake up, to see Preston and Jerome playing with my hair. What the hell? "Oi! What are you doing?!" I shout, swatting their hands away. "Hey, we were bored, and your hair was available." Jerome smiles, and I open my mouth to object, only to close it. "Butts." I mutter, sitting up and crossing my arms over my chest. "So, what brings you here? Shouldn't you be checking on the others?" I ask. Jerome shrugs. "We came here first, and you were still asleep, and when we went to see the others, and all of them but Mitch were getting dressed to leave. So, we came back!" Preston shouts, and holds his arms out for exaggeration. I see the rude nurse from yesterday outside the door, glaring at Preston. I just roll my eyes when she looks at me."What time is it anyway?" I squint, trying to read the clock. Jerome looks at the clock across the room, squinting as well. "Eh, it looks like it's about 10:30."
I sit my head back. "I've been asleep for like, 14 hours. Jesus." I say, putting my face in my hands. "Like- I feel terrible that you guys have to sleep in these, rocks." Preston says, poking the mattress. "I know, I have sympathy for myself. I just want to go home, and sleep forever." I hear Jerome start walking around. "Same." He says, looking at everything. "What are you even doing?" I ask. "I'm looking for food." I face-palm. "Jerome, I'm almost certain that this place has a vending machine." Preston says, rolling his eyes. Jerome puts his hands in his pockets, rummaging his hands around. "But I don't have any-" Jerome stops, pulling money from his pocket. "BE RIGHT BACK I GOT MONEY." Jerome shouts, running out of the room. I hear a nurse yell at him, and a skidding noise. Me and Preston laugh, as he sits down.
"Y'know, I'm really sorry. I made you get out of the car, and we wouldn't be here if I wouldn't have told you to." I sigh. "Exactly, Preston. We wouldn't be here. We would probably be dead. Especially me, so thanks." I say, grinning at him. "But if I-" I cut him off. "No, shut up. If I wouldn't have gotten out of the car to get the phone, we probably wouldn't be here right now, and you know it. So thank you." He opens his mouth only to close it, and look down. He tries to speak- only to be cut off by Jerome skidding to a stop in front of our door. His hands and mouth are full of Welch's fruit snacks, and his eyes are dilated, making it looked like he killed someone. Speaking of which, he probably did kill someone to get those gummies. He does a maniac laugh, and shrieks, "I GOT FOOD!" dropping the bags in his mouth. Preston and I wince, his voice echoing around the room.
He walks in and closes the door with his foot. Making a nurse outside of room jump, and I snort. "Dude, you're gonna get kicked out." I say. "Then you'll come with us!" He shouts, making Preston and I wince again. If only, Jerome."Dial it down!" Preston whisper shouts, earning a chuckle from me. He rolls his eyes. "Babies." He says. I open my mouth, only to have Preston's hand slapped over it. "He'll shout again." He whispers. I slowly move his hand away from my face, and gain Jerome's attention. "Hey, Jerome. Some gummies are on the floor over there." I say, weakly pointing at them. He sends me a smug smile, before diving to grab them. He sits back down in his chair, ripping a bag open, and pouring the entire bag in his mouth. Preston and I just stare in awe, no doubt our mouths are hanging open. Jerome looks at us, and tries to say, "Jealous?" Instead, he says it, while spitting a gummy into Preston's hair.
Preston screams, and tries to get it out, yelling, "DARUDE! I'VE BEEN INFECTED!" I just sit off to the side laughing, as Preston aimlessly tries to get it out. I just grab the gummy off the top of his head, and chuck it at Jerome, and hit him in the eye by accident. "Sorry!" I squeak, as Jerome sarcastically falls over. "I'VE BEEN SHOT!" He yells, holding his eye. "I SEE THE LIGHT!" He yells again, slowly falling onto the floor. Preston is just gasping for air as he laughs, talking in between. "Don't- Go- into the- Light!" He laughs, holding his stomach. Jerome sits up and clears his throat, and pretends like none of that ever happened, and looks at his phone. As we're all silent, I take a moment for my mind to digest what happened. Wait, did that just happen? Like, what did just happen? (A/N: Is that even correct grammar? I don't even know.) I look at Preston, seeing that he's probably thinking the same thing, according to his facial expression. Minus the teary eyes and red face from laughing.
"Well, I'm gonna go and get the guys a bite to eat, and bring you two some food back. They're waiting in the lobby. Do you wanna come Preston?" He asks. Preston sends me a questionable glance, and I nod. "Uh, sure." Preston says, standing up. Hold up, Wait a minute. He has a phone? "Hey Jerome, where'd you get that phone?" I ask. "Oh, mine just barely lived, but check out the screen." He says, holding up his screen. It's completely shattered. It kind of looked like it was smashed with a hammer, if you really look at it. "Well, we'll be fast, okay?" Jerome says, putting his phone in his pocket. I nod, and they both wave, before walking out the door. Well, now we play the waiting game.
