m a i s y

It was a warm spring morning, looking at the date on my phone it was showed the twenty sixth of May. This was the day I was supposed to gain tremendous freedom but it only seemed that I was being restricted even more.

My eighteenth birthday, my mother had planned a small birthday party with my closest friends and family. It had been three long months of recovery, of healing and yet I still felt a hole in my chest. I sat outside picking at the wild flowers that were beginning to advance on my mothers meticulously placed garden.

And even though the flowers were wild and encroaching...I found beauty in them as well. I heard footsteps before someone had sat beside me as I turned I saw my mother with pink lemonade.

"You looked sad, thought you'd might enjoy some lemonade and the warm weather."

I took the glass and set in on the patio, "I do enjoy the weather."

"I know honey.... If you want to talk about what happened to y-"

"I don't." I interrupted, looking at the wild flowers.

She seemed determined to get her point across, "But if you-l"

"Mom, please."

"You fell for him, didn't you?" She asked sadly.

Tears brimming in my eyes, soon pooled over, I wiped at them lazily.

"I didn't want to, I tried, you wouldn't believe how hard I tried. Stupid of me right."

She shook her head,"No baby...that's not stupid, hard to imagine what I would ever do in such a situation. I'm so proud of you, and I'm sorry for pushing you so hard, demanding perfection, its only because I know you can do it. You're moving on to big things in this world, better than this place.."

"You're proud of me?"

"Always was."

I hugged her she pulled back with a sad smile adorning her face, "crazy to see you so big now and you'll be graduating soon. I love you...now get ready for your party it's in three hours it's casual."

I nodded taking off towards the door and went straight to the bathroom. I turned the knobs to the left for warmer water, stripping from my clothes and started the bath.

I took longer than I needed but it was only because I kept getting distracted. Wrapping a towel around my body I walked to my room. I had decided on wearing a black skirt and a white lace halter top, with a grey sweater.  I put on my white converse.

I had braided my hair into two french braids, I didn't want any makeup I looked through my piles of books before I found one that could kill time for me.

As I was just throughly getting into a book called "paper mache"

A knock sounded before the door opened revealing my dad, "okay Maisy guest will be here in a few minutes you want to come downstairs?"

"Sure."

I walked downstairs and there were black and white balloons scattered around the first floor. The tables were lined in black cloth and there was various bowls of food.
