Weeks had passed, and it was one of the most eventful weeks I've ever had. I would sneak out a lot to see Dan, and the next morning we would still be with each other while practicing, and afterward we would play piano together. Katelyn did start to get more suspicious, but I ignored her. I suspect that she's been telling father, but he doesn't buy it. Maybe if she keeps bothering him about it, father will kick her out. That would be nice.
I smile at the idea of Father kicking her out. "What are you smiling about." Katelyn snarled. "Nothing." I groan, rolling my eyes. "Come on, we have to go to the tailor so I can see how my dress came out!" She said, grabbing my arm. "Why do I have to go? I'm going to see you in it, eventually." I complain. "Just get off your lazy ass! I bet if it was for Dan, you would go." She sneered. "Just shut up, and lets get this over with." I sigh. She smirked at me, knowing that she got her way.
We walked into town as some people bowed as they saw us. I tried to get them to stop but Katelyn liked the attention. She reached for my hand, and I quickly pulled back. "What are you doing?!" I ask, confused. "Holding your hand, obviously. We're getting married, so we might as well look like we're somewhat in love." She said, grasping for my hand again. "We're not in love." I whisper, gritting my teeth, but let her hold my hand.
We finally get to the tailor, and she immediately squeals. "It looks amazing! You're so talented!" She gushed. Why was Katelyn being so nice, had she changed? Was she being nicer, because she was going to soon be married. "For an old bitch." Katelyn whispers. Nope. She did not change at all. I look at her in disbelief. How could someone be so cruel? "I will get someone to come get my dress later. Thanks!" She said, faking a smile. "God, she could really use some makeup. And did you see her hair! It looks like a troll lives there!" She cackled as we left. She held my hand once more, while we were walking.
I could feel eyes on me. There were many people already staring at me, but something was bothering me. I turn around to see Dan. He looked angry. I tilt my head, questioning why he looked so mad. His gaze drops to my hand. I suddenly realized he was mad, because I was holding Katelyn's hand. He must be so confused on what's happening. I don't blame him, I would be pretty confused if I was in his position. "I should go explain to him." I think. "Oh, is Dan jealous?" Katelyn asked with a smirk. "N-no of course not. We're just friends Katelyn." I stutter. "Well, then I guess he won't mind if I do this." She grinned, devishly. "Wha-" but before I can continue she smashes her lips against mine. I try to pull back, but she had a surprisingly, strong grip on me. I finally push her off, and turn to see Dan. His fists were clenched and he ran off. "Awww, did he not like the show?" Katelyn laughed softly. I clench my jaw and narrow my eyes at her. "Find your way back to the castle yourself." I grumble, and run off after Dan.
I looked for about an hour, but couldn't find any trace of him. He wasn't at his house, or the garden, or in any of the shops in town. I take a minute to catch my breath and run off to Dans mothers house. "Mrs. Howell, is Dan here?" I ask. "Yes, he's in his room. He seemed quite mad. Did something happen?" She asked. "No, everything's fine. I just beat him in a game of sticks and stones." I lie. I didn't want her to be worried. "Oh ok, well I guess you can go see him." She said. I walk into the hallway, and locate Dans room. I turn the knob, but it wouldn't budge. Locked. "Dan." I say through the door. "Leave me alone." He mumbled. "Dan, I can explain." "Just leave me alone, Phil." "Not until you let me explain!" "There's nothing to explain! I get it you've been playing with me! You don't love me!" He yelled, his voice cracking. "It's not like that at all." I say, a tear falling from my cheek. "Phil just go! If you really love me, you'll leave me alone!" He said in a choked sob. "Fine." I say, in barely a whisper. Tears were streaming down my cheeks. As I reached the door, a hand was placed on my shoulder. Hoping it was Dan, I turned around but it was only Mrs. Howell. "Oh, um, Mrs. Howell." I stutter, wiping my tears away. "Something else is going on, isn't it?" She said. I nod, and look down at my feet. "Is there anything I can do to help you two?" She asked. "I don't think so." I sniffle. "Um, actually, do you have a pen and some paper?" I ask. "Oh, yes! I'll go get that for you." She said, scurrying out. She quickly returned with a small piece of paper and a pen. I thank her and take it. I click the pen and start to write.
"I know you don't want to talk to me right now. So, I'll respect that. But just please let me explain. Meet me in the garden at our usual time. If you don't come I understand.
-Phil"I take the note and walk over to Dan's room. I could hear sobbing, and it killed me. I knocked on the door and slipped the note under. "Please make sure he eats. He told me what happened last time he got really sad, and I don't want that to happen again." I say, worried. "Thank you for your concern, Phil. I'll make sure that won't happen again." She said, smiling weakly. I wave goodbye to her and take one last look at Dan's bedroom door, wishing he would just rush out to stop me from leaving. But he didn't.
I took the long way home through the woods, so I could avoid any human contact. My tears had dried by the time I got to the castle. "Where the hell have you been?" Katelyn asked, as she posed at the mirror. "Get out." I groan. "Do you think this shade of pink looks good on me?" She asked, without looking at me. "Get out." I say once more, teeth gritted. "Maybe this'll look better." She said, puckering up her lips at the mirror. "Get the hell out of my room!" I yell. She finally turns around and starts to walk toward me. "I like when you're mad. You look sexier." She said, tugging at my collar. I push her off, and open the door. "The exit is this way." I say, pointing out the door. "Fine." She sighed, rolling her eyes. She grabbed her things and sashayed out of my rooms. I slammed the door and face planted into bed. I skipped dinner, and refused to leave my room. I eventually ran out of tears, and hopelessly stared at my ceiling.
It was lights out for the castle and everyone was fast asleep. I wait awhile before I quietly get out of bed. I walk over to the window and slowly climb down. I take a seat under the willow tree. I look around and pluck one of the flowers. It was the same kind as the one Dan used to make our flower crowns. I started to spin it in between my fingers. More tears started to wet my face. My hands shaking, I threw the flower and curled up into a ball. Did I really just lose the one person I truly love? I wait for another hour or so. I try to muffle my sobs, so I wouldn't wake anyone. I wipe away the tears that stained my face with a trembling hands. I get up to leave, guessing he didn't want to see me. I start to walk toward the wall and hear someone call my name. "Phil." "Dan?" I turn to see Dan his cheeks with tears stains and his hair as messed up as mine." Dan." I say relieved. I run up to hug him, but he stops me. "Explain."
