"May I tell you what I have found now?" I ask, attempting to catch my breath yet again. "You may." Dan smiled, as breathless as me. "Remember that letter Father sent you a while ago?" I asked. "Yeah." Dan frowned. "In the letter it said that you could join the militia anytime you want. Even though Father has a grudge against you now, I bet he'll still take you. He's pretty desperate to have someone like you." I explain. "I see, but how does that help us?" He asks. "I have to see the militia once a week! We could see each other!" I say. "Yeah, but that's only once a week." "Better than not ever seeing each other again. And also you can say, you're joining because you feel you owe my father." I say. "I don't owe him anything! He said, angrily. "I know, but then he won't be as hard on you." I say. "But what about you? I don't want him to be hard on you." Dan says, snuggling next to me. "I'll be fine. You don't have to worry about me. Tomorrow morning, go to the guards show them your letter and tell them you want to speak to my father about joining the militia. And you won't be alone, you can talk to Justin." I say, playing with his hair. "Okay." He sighed. "And please fight the urge to bop my father in schnoz." I giggle. "What the hell is a schnoz? But I think I know what you mean, and fine." Dan laughs. "I should go. I need to hurry back to Katelyn. The guards will get suspicious on why we're taking so long just to look at flowers, and they'll send someone out." I say, while pulling up my pants. "I love you." Dan says, and brings me in to kiss. "I love you, too." I moan. "Enough for Round 3?" "Oh shut up!" I giggle. I hurry out and sprint toward the flower shop.

"God damn, you took a while. I should've just rat you out." Katelyn said, her arms crossed. "Well, I'm glad you didn't. And did you actually look at some flowers, because we could be questioned by Father." I say. "Yeah yeah, I did. If he asks, we were picking between the tulips and roses. But we decided on tulips, in a lilac shade." "Thanks." I say, as we walk back toward the castle. "Whatever, don't forget this is only a one time thing." She reminds me. "Yeah I know, I'll remember that." I sigh. "So, what were you guys doing?" She asks. "Umm...talking." I say, my face growing hot at the subject. "Mhmm." She hummed, unconvinced. We didn't say anything the rest of the way.

We were greeted by my father at the door. "So, what were you two doing?" Father asked. "Flower shopping, weren't we Phil?" Katelyn asks, linking her arm with mine. "Yeah, we were." I say, not meeting his gaze. "Is that so? And could you please explain to me what you two decided on." Father asked amused. "Well, we were deciding between roses and tulips. But we decided on the tulips, and we found a nice shade of lilac for the tulips." I said, remembering what Katelyn had said. "Oh, well then." Father said, looking surprised. "You wouldn't mind then if I ask the florists if you were there or if anyone else was with you other than Katelyn?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "Go ahead." I say, confidently. Father grunted and let us through. "God, he's just trying to find something else he can use against me to punish me." I mumble, under my breath.

Father did check with the florists, and like Katelyn promised, she covered for me. And father talked about how he was surprised to see Dan asking to join the militia. And how he was pleased that Dan said that he thought he owed him, and even apologized. Father said he would gladly let Dan into the militia. He also said that I could visit the militia, but there better be no funny business. Father told me that, and said I didn't have to do practice today. I think he's just overwhelmed that Dan finally joined the militia. I wish I could be with Dan to tell him that he did great and that Father seems to be in a good mood for now. But I guess I can tell him tomorrow, because that's when I normally visit the soldiers.

I woke up early the next morning, excited to see Dan. I skipped breakfast and ran over to the militia dormitories, just left of the castle. I was greeted by Sam, another friend, but I wasn't super close with. "Hey Phil!" "Hi Sam. Um, have you seen Dan? Brown hair, brown eyes, a bit taller than me." I explained. "Yeah, he's still sleeping I think." Sam said, pointing to a bunk. "Thanks Sam." I say, and wave to him. I quickly kneel next to the bunk Dan was fast asleep in. I decided to sit on the mattress and move his hair out of his face. "Phil?" He said in confused, yet raspy voice. "Good morning Dan." I smile down at him. "Morning." He smiled back, he brings me I in for a kiss but I deny. "I'm sorry Dan, but we can't." I said ,looking around at all the other soldiers. Dan pouts and sits up. "By the way, you did amazing. Father really liked your attitude. Nice touch with the apology too." I compliment. "Thanks." He blushed. "So, how is it here?" I asked. "It's ok. My bed at home is much more comfy than here. But we're going to learn how to use a shot gun, so I guess that's exciting." Dan shrugged. "That's right get into the spirit of it!" I said, encouragingly. Dan giggled at the sight of me fist lumping the air, but then hitting my hand on the top part of the bunk bed. An alarm starts to ring and Dan sighs. "I gotta go." He groaned. "Stay strong." I said. "Ok." He said, and quickly pecks me on the cheek. "Dan!" I say. "Sorry couldn't help it." He grins and runs after the rest of the soldiers.
