Can you keep a promise? Even if that promise was made many years ago?
Zeref: Mavis, what are doing?
Mavis: Nothing, really!
Zeref: It better not be anything embarrassing.
Mavis: Hope you enjoy this book!
Zeref: Wait...what? Mavis come back here!
Zeref ran around Tenroujima looking for Mavis. He then stopped and hid behind a tree as he heard voices. He saw some people that he assumed were members of a guild since they all had an insignia.
Zeref figured that he might as well find Mavis quickly. He then looked under the roots on the Tenrou tree and found Mavis curled up in a ball.
"I finally found you."
"Leave me alone!" Mavis yelled, her voice cracking a bit. Zeref smiled and walked closer to her and stopped right in front of her.
"I'm not going to hurt you Mavis."
"You already have..."
"I promise not to do it again."
"You promise?"
"I promise."
"For sure this time?"
"For sure."
Mavis the looked at the ground then back up at him. Then she rushed up to him and swung her arms around his neck tightly.
"What's wrong, Mavis?" Zeref asked quietly.
"Do you... do you still love me?" Mavis asked, feeling really unsure about the question. The memories of what Zeref said to her all these years suddenly played in her mind and the silence that followed didn't make it any better.
"Zeref-"
"I love you."
"Eh?"
"I love you so much it hurts me just thinking about it. I'm so sorry for what I said all these years ago. I didn't want you to leave."
At this point, Mavis realized the crack in his voice and the dampness she felt on her dress. Was he crying?
"I.. I'm s-sorry M-Mavis. I didn't mean it. I didn't mean it at all." Zeref apologized profusely. Mavis looked down at the trembling body and hugged him this time wrapping her arms around his torso.
"It's okay Zeref. I forgive you." Mavis said comfortingly to Zeref. Zeref then looked at the girl he loved for so long and he feelings aroused in him.
He loved her.
This wasn't some childish crush or infatuation anymore.
He really did love her.
His trembling hand slowly made its way to Mavis' face. and gently pushed a bang out her face and behind her ears. Although, it was not the first time Zeref had done this to her, Mavis blushed.
To her it felt weird. She felt tingly inside and it wasn't explainable. Her heart raced in her chest at his touch and she didn't quite have the courage to look at him. She's never felt this way before around Zeref. So what was this feeling?
Was this feeling what they called love?
Yes.. it was ans she was sure of it.
She wanted to feel this feeling forever. She wanted to be with him forever.
She loved him.
Zeref then tilted Mavis' chin towards him and he looked into her eyes as if searching for an answer and when he believed he finally got it. He leaned towards her.
"I will love and protect you forever and ever."
"And I too."
And it was their lips made contact.
