"Zeref, where's my breakfast?" Mavis whined as they walked through the forest.

Zeref was annoyed. Ever since, he woke her up she's been complaining about breakfast and its only 3 in the afternoon.

"We have to check for other survivors first, then you'll get breakfast."

"Yay! Breakfast!"

Soon enough, Zeref and Mavis reached the now demolished village. Somewhere along the way, they separated.

Zeref was walking when he remembered the attack his mind. People were killed, houses burned, children crying, there was pain and suffering all over the place.

"Zeira?....Zeira?....Common, Zeira wake up."

"Zeira?"

"Zeira!" Mavis screamed in hurt. Zeref decided to look her and found her holding the dead body of a little girl around her age...closely.

"Mavis."

"Zeref? why do bad things happen to good people?"

"I...I...do....don't know." Zeref stuttered causing the already grieving girl to cry more.

Zeref pulled her into a warm hug and Mavis continued to cry into his shirt.

As Mavis cried, Zeref felt a warm feeling inside of him. It didn't make sense to  him at the moment. That warm feeling was being overshadowed by dark cruel feeling.

It was their fault. They came and attacked the village for a very pointless reason.....Jealously.

Zeref was angry. It made his best friend cry. It was making her suffer. Zeref swore that he'll create a world without all the needless suffering caused by wars and human error.

"Zeref?" Mavis asked in a soft, weak voice. Zeref looked at her with a soft expression wondering what did she call him for.

"Promise, you'll never leave me." Mavis asked with breaks in the voice. She was still crying.

Zeref was shocked.  He at first, didn't know what to say. Then a small smile crept in his face.

"I promise."

"Pinkie Promise?"

"Pinkie promise."

"Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." Mavis  stated smiling. First crossing her heart, then flapping her arms then covering her left eye with left hand.

"I thought it was cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye."

"Sounds too painful and gloomy. I prefer my version."

Then that warm feeling returned. This time it wasn't overshadowed by hatred. It made Zeref want to keep that promise.

Because he wanted to be with Mavis....forever.
