April 14th
It was peaceful.
The air was warm, the sky a light blue and all you could here was the sound of birds in the trees.
It was rare that these days I found a place to lay and just feel, well, peaceful. As cheesy as it sounds Life is like a rollercoaster, some days are good and you feel as if you're on top of the world yet the next minute everything comes crashing down. That's the way things had been going for Harry and I these past few months.
Some days we were good, Harry was fine and then the next everything would come crashing down. There was never any certainty for what a day could bring.
Harry was sick.
There was no way of even talking yourself out of believing it. He was slowly yet surely deteriorating. All you had to do was take one look at him and you would know that he didn't have long, and honestly I think I knew that all along.
It was one particular night that I knew that our time together was limited. Harry had decided he wanted to take me ice skating because he thought it would be "cute". Much to my dismay everything seemed to be going rather well and it was what Harry would call cute. He had taken me out for dinner first to a small italian resturant in which he claimed that they had the best pizza's in town there. It was quite nice but I would say that it was the best pizza I had ever eaten. During dinner I did notice that Harry wasn't really there, failing to finish even one slice of the pizza. When I asked him he just said he had a snack before he came out and that it had filled him up.
Once dinner had finished we headed towards the ice skating rink. It wasn't too busy but it wasn't empty. There was a range of young kids with their parents, to young teenage couples and then older couples who were also enjoying the rink. Harry paid for our entry and skate hire and once we were all ready we headed onto the ice.
It went well for a while, we skated around hand in hand. My other hand sternly on the barrier incase I might fall. Harry also tried to show off, doing little turns with a huge grin on his face. I asked to take a break so we did, we sat and talked for a little while. Every now and then his head would fall to rest in his hands and when I asked if he was okay, he would simply shrug and tell me it was normal.
After about half an hour he insisted we go on and skate for a little longer. When I told him I didn't think it would be such a good idea since his headaches were getting worse he only begged and insisted more. He even gave me puppy dog eyes so me not being able to say no to that agreed to go back out with him.
I only turned my back for a minute because I had knocked some little girl over and in that minute, Harry had collapsed behind me, his head connecting with the ice. Paramedics were quick to the scene and so were Anne and Louis.
I really didn't think he was going to make it that night.
"Niall?" I quickly sat up, snapping my head to look at Louis.
He stood with his hands in his pockets, rocking back and forth slightly on his feet.
"Yeah?" I mumbled, running my fingers through my hair in attempt to comb out the leaves.
He took a few steps forward, sitting down beside me "Just came to see if everything was all good?"
"Yeah, all good." I nodded.
"Niall" He sighed quietly, "everything is going to be okay, he's going to get better?"
I shook my head, turning my head to the side to look at him.
"All you have to do is take one look at him Louis and you just know that our time with him is limited"
He didn't say anything, only looked down at his hands.
"You know it's the truth Louis and honestly I can't find the point in denying it anymore and that kills me. It feels like i'm being stabbed constantly because without him in my life, I honestly don't know what I am going to do. He's all I've ever had and he's all I got left"
He sighed quietly, "You have me Niall, I'm not going anywhere. As long as Harry is still her you've still got him, so make the most of it. Spend time with him and not by yourself moping around. You and I both know that is the last thing Harry would want you doing"
I rubbed my eyes roughly, letting out a deep sigh. Louis was right, Harry hated that these past few months I gave up doing things to sit in the hospital room with him. He wanted me to live my life, because he knew that once he was gone, I was going to have to learn to do it without him in it anyway.
"Now c'mon, lets go see him." Louis stood up, holding his hand out for me.
I took and pulled myself up onto my feet.
"Okay."
