A/N:
Since it's just that time of year, I've decided to write a Christmas short story. None of what happens in this chapter will affect the story. This is my Christmas gift to the dorks who enjoy my story, so here you go and Happy Holidays!
Nikki's Point of View:
As usual, Brandy breaks into our room, jumps on our bed, and yells at us to wake up because it's Christmas for crying out loud! This time, she has the help of my adorable little nieces and nephews. Zander and Sarah, Chloe and Marcus's kids, jump all over Brandon while Anthony and Amber, Zoey and Theo's twins, jump all over me. Brandy and Taylor are jumping in the middle of the bed. And it seems like the entire room is one big party when everyone else comes running in.
"Alright, alright! We're up. Jesus Christ!" I yell.
Everyone marches down the stairs to the living room, where all of the presents lie under the tree. Brianna was already there, but she was asleep and under the tree as well.
"Brianna, wake up. Dude, are you okay?" I ask. I prod at her sides until she finally wakes up. "Bri, what are you doing under the tree? You're gonna crush all of the gifts."
"Ah, but you're forgetting–" Yawn. " I am a gift," she says.
"I bet you slept under there all night just to say that," Brandy points out. I have no doubt that that is true.
"Nah, Princess Sugar Plum made an appearance after all these years because she wanted a family reunion. She told me to do this, and as her best friend, you do understand it is a moral duty to do anything she asks of after not seeing her for such a long time."
Violet scoffs. "Oh yes, we completely understand."
Brianna crawls from under the tree after she had her small fit of laughter. From there, all of the kids open their presents with delight shining in their eyes. Now all that's left is Brandy, and boy do Brandon and I have surprise for her!
"Alright, lady, you're the last one. Here you go." I hand her a large box.
"Well this is lighter than I expected," she states, a perplexed look on her face. She opens the box and finds the keys. "Didn't you just get me a car? I mean, I wouldn't mind another, though I'm content with the one I already have."
"But those," Brandon laughs, "are not car keys."
"Then what in the world do they go to? A safe?"
Brandon pulls out his walkie talkie telling Bob to bring her around the back. All of us get up and walk out to the back yard to see Brandy's gift. We hear the whirring from above us, and Bob lands the helicopter on the pad we had built when Brandy was away for a week with Taylor at a resort.
With her back facing me, she turns on her heels and crushes me in a hug. "You're outta your mind. Oh my God, you're insane, and I love you for it! Thank you so much!"
"And you thought those lessons over the summer were for nothing," I giggle.
"You were planning this since the summer time?" she queries. I nod and her eyebrows raise. "Well... Um... Can I take it for a spin?"
"Is Christmas in the 25th of December?" She crushes me in a hug again and takes off hand in hand with Taylor towards the helicopter.
*~*~*~*
Brandon plays a quick intro to the sweet song on the piano, and Brandy begins to sing.
Ever since we had Brandy, we made this tradition where each family would sing a song. This year, Brandon, Brandy, and I sing Oh Holy Night.
O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.Brandon and I join in.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious mornFall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices
O night divineThen, for the rest of the song, we let Brandy take away the show and shine in the spotlight. Her voice is just amazing.
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divineAnd like a respective audience, the other families applaud us. Taylor gives Brandy a standing ovation and a kiss. Brandon walks around the keyboard and leads me under the mistletoe he hung.
"You're so cliché it makes me want to hurl," I deadpan playfully.
"Only for you, babe."
"Babe? I haven't heard that since senior year."
"Why don't we turn back the clock, and take it back to prom night?"
"Uh, no thank you. I'd rather just kiss you and go join our wonderful family."
"Fine. Have it your way, but you're getting attacked once we get to the bedroom." He gently places a hand on my cheek and pulls me into a kiss. Even after sixteen years he manages to send shivers down my spine and make me feel so good.
"Alright, old man, let's go."
"Old man? Now that was just rude and disrespectful. You have such a long list of punishments for being so mean. It's a wonder you didn't get coal in your stocking."
I press flush against my husband. "Maybe you can fix what a naughty girl I am, but after we have milk and cookies with our dear family waiting for us," I whisper in his ear.
Brandon gladly gives me his hand, and we walk back into the family room where everyone is just as happy as they were when we left a short moment ago.
"I am so holding you to your promise," Brandon whispers in my ear.
I chuckle. "Merry Christmas. I hope you like your Christmas present."
"If you being mean gets me gifts, will you be rude everyday?"
"I'll think about it," I hoot.
And Theo, Zoey, and the twins get up to sing Baby, It's Cold Outside.
