My heart was beating up in my throat, was that even possible? I was frozen there, I stopped spinning and just stood there with her for what felt like forever, but I think it was only a few seconds. She was looking up at me with a hint of a smile and a lot of nervousness.
“I get it if you don’t feel the same, I just…I needed to tell you. I don’t want you to feel like you need to say it back, I don’t want to make you do anything, I just…I wanted to tell you. I won’t try and make you uncomfortable or anything, I won’t say it a lot or anything until…until you want me to.” I was babbling, and the thing with babbling is that you realize what you’re doing, but you just can’t stop, you just keep going and going and you feel more like an idiot with every word that comes out of your mouth.
“Ashlyn O’Daire, if you don’t shut up then you can’t hear what I’m going to say.” She chuckled.
“Alright.” I mumbled.
She leaned in real close and whispered in my ear, “I love you too.”
“You don’t have to say that…I don’t want you to feel like you need to…”
“I know I don’t need to say it.”
“I just want you to actually be in love with me, I don’t want to make you feel obligated or anything.”
“Ash, you’re just plain stupid, aren’t you?” She laughed and wrapped her arms around my neck before pulling me into a kiss. “I love you. I don’t feel obligated or anything, I just love you.” She kissed me again and I picked her up.
She wound her legs around my waist, I slid my fingers in those curls and I pulled her to the bed. I pulled away from her and looked into those green eyes. I’m not sure I would ever get enough of those eyes. “Do you really love me?”
She smiled and said, “I really do love you.”
I kissed her again and then said, “We should probably go to sleep.”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
I switched off the lamp on the nightstand and flopped on the bed next to her. We lay there in the dark for a while, and when I rolled over to hug her close she stopped me. “Ash?”
“Yeah?” It was dark, but I could still see her looking at me. She was chewing her bottom lip in thought.
“You always hold me. I was thinking that…maybe for once…I’d hold you. I think that you might need it. A lot happened tonight, and I just…”
I chuckled and said, “Erica, of course you can hold me tonight.”
I rolled over again and felt her arms snake around my waist. I felt her warm breath on the back of my neck and I couldn’t imagine anywhere else I’d rather be.
I fell asleep thinking about how warm she was and how comfortable I was in this bed.
I felt lips brush along my shoulder and I felt my lips turn up in a smile. “Morning sunshine.” I murmured.
“Good morning to you too.”
I rolled over to look at her. “Let’s stay home.”
