Dedicated to a former friend, and the first book I ever published.

Armin watched in agony as she inched toward him, and she was only handing him his lunch. Why did her of all people have to aggravate him so much? He just didn't understand how he managed to breathe the same air as her thus far.
"Here you go, Armin." She said while placing the tray in his hands. A flood of indecision coursed through him in an unsettling manner. The two sat down at a table, and he quietly ate his disgusting food selection.
"So how are you?" Terrible, he thought.
"I'm doing well, and you?"
"I'm fantastic, thank you for asking." She grinned— showing her teeth. Why must she torture him so? He carefully smiled back. The food eventually vanished, yet he remained famished. She soon finished her meal as well and they stood to put their trays away.
"Well, I have to go start my chores. I'll see you later!" She waved goodbye before leaving him to his lonesome. His mind didn't relax as he imagined it would. He desperately wished to turn back to a time when things were less complicated.
He was in town square buying things the Survey Corps required. After he had triple checked that he obtained every item, he became aware of the presence following him. He shakily looked around but saw nothing. His conscious tried to convince him no one would waste their time pursuing the likes of him. Nonetheless, Armin summarily rounded the corner— inching toward his horse.
Abruptly, his bags were scattered alongst the pavement, and his wrists were held captive above his head. Panic and fear pulsed through his brain at the thought that he wouldn't die at the teeth of a Titan, but rather in a decrepit alley at the hands of a thug. His eyes focused on the figure in front of him who possessed two red orbs.
"Delicious." The woman sibilated while licking his pale neck. Armin whimpered like a scared puppy causing her to chuckle.
"Precious." Her lips tweaked into a smirk, and then an excruciating pain rippled through his body. He became light-headed and fell into her grip.
"So... good." Then his world faded to black.
"Armin?" A sweet-sounding voice pierced through his eardrums, yet he likened it to that of the Devil. His blue eyes flicked open to gaze upon where she stood in all her glory. She coyly grinned— showcasing two sharp teeth and a snake-like tongue. Why did fear plague him no longer? Armin sat up and stared at the ravishing beauty.
"You already seem to know my name, so now you owe me yours." The words dripped confidence and implied the statement did not amount to a request but a command, which startled him because that had not been his intention at all. Furthermore, his voice was much deeper than he remembered. She smirked while placing a hand on his chest.
"Ruby." Her hand began to travel lower than he would've liked and he expressed it with the displeasure gracing his countenance.
"Sorry, but I have my eyes on someone..." He simply spoke and she growled.
"If she's human, you're doomed to be darling." The woman's words laced with venom.
"What are you talking about?" Armin snarled. What had happened to elicit such animalistic behavior from him?
"Do you need a mirror? Sweetheart, you aren't human." An evil, smug look crossed Ruby's face. She grabbed a mirror on the bedside table and handed it to him. He stared at his lack of reflection in awe. Curiosity rattled through him, and he viewed her through the glass with the same result.
