An angry store owner ran after her for stealing a few morsels of bread from his shop. He shouted after her and a duo of military police standing about, yet all she could hear was the pitter patter of her footsteps against the pavement. The males in uniform were pissed out of their mind, so they just laughed at the distraught baker as he continued to chase after the girl. He huffed before smirking in triumph when he cornered her in a dead end alley.
"Pay for what you stole, Thief!" He had hoped his outcry sounded authoritative, but it ended up a mess of short breaths. (Y/N) stifled a laugh. She truly felt bad for the poor old man, almost. Her rumbling stomach made her think otherwise. While those thoughts occupied her mind, the baker inched toward her. The current situation didn't worry her one bit though. Her fingers slowly moved toward the machine harnessed around her waist.
"H-Hey, it's just bread. No need to do anything drastic!" The store owner felt a bit of perspiration trickle down his forehead at the thought that he could lose his life over a few loaves of bread. He should have frantically scampered out of there and alerted those shit policemen pissed off there face; unfortunately, paralysis overcame his trembling frame.
A loud noise echoed through the narrow pathway, and the man's heart stopped. His wrinkled palm clutched the side of his chest where his heart rested while his eyes screwed shut. A few moments passed. The pain never came. He slowly opened his eyes to a vacant space where the girl once stood. His head whipped around to find where she could have gone. He released a sigh of relief and looked up to thank the lord. Instead, he found her zipping across the sky. The poor old baker stared completely flabbergasted.
(Y/N) used her stolen 3DMG to land on the roof of a building far away from the store and the alley. She took a deep breath, taking in the beauty of the afternoon sky and the busy traffic below. Townspeople milled about on the ground beneath her— unaware of her presence. A smile graced her countenance as she relaxed atop the ledge of the place. She reached for the soft bread she took and bit into it. The baked dough greatly reminded her of the ones her mother used to produce from scratch. It didn't taste exactly like it since hers could never be matched, but it still made the girl want to cry if she could.
Her parents had passed away eight years ago. She had been really young at the time, but she knew soldiers never came to report good news. After becoming an orphan, a couple of alcoholic relatives came to the rescue. They forced her to work while they committed illegal activities in their basement. Her good nature slowly ebbed away after every insult they threw her way once she handed them the cash she earned. It was never a huge amount since she was so young, and couldn't obtain a high paying job. They blamed her for that too. At first, she would cry in their face until she grew old enough to bottle it up.
The couple that permanently remained high off their face grew enraged at that. They began to increase the severity of their insults and started to physically abuse her— anything to elicit a result from her. Although, she never satisfied their sadism. The girl refused to crack under the pressure. Eventually, when she turned of age, she left, and never looked back.
Leaving considerably increased her mental health, but disgraced her in the eyes of the community. No one knew the torment she went through in that household, and would rather scold her for being ungrateful. (Y/N) lost the low paying vocation she maintained until escaping because her employer was among the people with the aforementioned belief. She had been on her own since then— living on the streets and stealing things to keep her alive.
Abruptly, a tap to her shoulder broke her train of thought. The girl jumped to attention to see a man in a green cloak. She immediately lept off the roof whilst flipping the guy the bird. He gasped in horror assuming she'd splatter across the dirt below. Panic coursed through him until he finally acted and followed her. His maneuver gear hooked into a building on the other side as he flew toward her. Heroism swarmed about his brain when he reached out toward her only to get cut off short when she slipped away. His mouth went agape. (Y/N) grinned triumphantly looking at his shocked countenance. However, arrogance consumed her for too long, and she smacked against a brick wall. Her head throbbed on impact. She groaned in agony while she collapsed on the ground. Her hand flew to her forehead where a large gash laid. Blood slowly seeped out and coated her palm. The girl's (e/c) eyes slowly rolled to face her forehead causing the male from before to enter her central vision.
