Atem and Yugi fell deep into the hole surrounded by shadows that grew darker and darker as they descended deeper and deeper.
Atem had so many things flying rapidly through his mind. He feared if Yugi would survive the fall, let alone himself. He thought of how Yami Marik had escaped, still in possession of the WInged Dragon of Ra, whilst Obelisk the Tormentor was still trapped in Mirac's compartment above. The only positive note to this was that Atem had Slifer back. Then he thought of his and Yugi's friends above them. They may still be hurt from the damage that the Great Leviathan had caused to the building earlier just before the duel with Yami Marik started. Now as he and Yugi were falling, still even now, they were of no help to them, hurt or safe.
Finally, he landed. He didn't have a rough landing. In fact, he landed on soft ground, like clouds. Underground clouds? He opened his eyes and saw he was in the Shadow Realm, but it was much darker than usual. The floor was made of shadowy clouds that were pure black, like the night sky without stars.
"Yugi?" said Atem, "Are you okay?"
He didn't hear a reply. He heard groaning.
"YUGI!" shouted Atem as he got up and looked wildly around for his friend. He saw at first no one and nothing more than the surroundings of the black Shadow Realm. But then he looked up to see how deep down they were, to see if he could see the light of the laboratory. And he saw no light from above, but he saw a little above his head, a cage made entirely of shadows and inside was a barely conscious Yugi.
"Yugi, wake up!" cried Atem.
Yugi stirred and murmured, "Atem?"
"Yes, it's me. Are you alright?" asked Atem worriedly.
"I'm okay, but I'm stuck." replied Yugi as he took in the fact that he was caged.
"But what's going on?" wondered Atem and he looked around for some clue.
Way above them, still in the Mirac Mansion was Zorc. He was in a secret mini-lab that only Mirac knew of for emergencies. He had used Mirac to create a device capable of summoning the Shadow Realm, with help from the particles of Mirac-le energy from the Mirac-le Machine. He had of course succeeded.
"Your inventions are very effective, Doctor." remarked Zorc, as he turned round. Mirac was gagged and bound to a chair as he watched helplessly as Zorc corrupted his work for his evil plans for the Final War, but he could help but look at him in awe. Zorc was clearly clever and intelligent, as well as insane.
"Now for business." snarled Zorc, and leaving Mirac to struggle in his seat, he departed towards the laboratory where he had arranged for the Shadow Realm to open.
Outside, the Allies were still at tremendous odds with the Shadow Guards. They were seemingly unstoppable. Several of the friends were lost and the remaining fighters were losing the will to fight. Then came more trouble.
Rebecca was using her strongest monsters but she was surrounded by two of the Guards. Solomon and Professor Hawkins saw this and raced towards her.
"No, I can do this!" she shouted. Using her two monsters, Rebecca vanquished her foes, much to the two spectators' surprise and admiration.
Before they could congratulate her, they heard the whirring of a machine. They looked up. It was a KaibaCorp helicopter. The pilot was Roland, Kaiba's right hand henchman.
He landed by the battle and it was lucky that not everyone was too distracted by this arrival or they would have been a sitting duck to the Shadow Guards.
Roland jumped down, recognised Solomon and ran up to him.
"Is Mr Kaiba here?" he cried.
"No. He got past these things and got inside." replied Solomon.
