Jason's POV

Kat gives me a halfhearted wave as they drag her away. I stare, knowing exactly what's coming.

They're going to change her. They'll probably strip away all her memories and everything that makes Kat, well, Kat. They'll turn her into one of those tattooed soldiers, cold and smug as ever. And then it won't be Kat anymore, but just an empty shell.

As I watch her go, a man runs up to the president. "Sir, we may have a bit of a problem."

"What is it!?" The president snaps irritably.

"The savages. They broke through the walls and are heading here as we speak. We're taking care of them right now."

My eyes light up. They're trying to rescue us. A grin creeps up on my face, but not just because Kat and I have a chance of getting out of here, but that they survived. They're strong enough to even establish a rescue, meaning that those punk ass soldiers didn't hit them as hard as I thought.

Alarms flare up, making the room glow a bright shade of red as an ear piercing blare comes from the speakers.

Well, this might be a good time to start fighting.

I'm about to start punching the nearest soldier, but a familiar voice speaks up, overpowering the alarms on the speakers.

"Sorry Jason, we'll pick you up in a bit," Carter says.

I scowl. What's that supposed to mean?

A thick, white gas starts to enter from the vents, catching everyone by surprise, including me. We all try to hold our breath, which can only last for so long. One whiff of the stuff sends us all into dreamland.
