I woke up first.

We had been thrown down the stairs with the bed. Pieces of wood were everywhere along with debris and dirt. I looked over at Zoe. Her ankle appeared to have been caught under the couch and when it turned over it landed on her ankle. There was a small pool of blood leaking out from under.

There were scratched all down her arms from her run in the woods and deeper ones with splinters in them. Her legs, same case except I couldn't see her right one knee down.

I had pieces of junk in my thick hair and a bump on my head and deeper cuts but not as bad because my flesh wasn't already ripped open my thorns. I shoved off the mattress I was under and crawled over to Zoe who was still unconscious and barely breathing.

"ZOE! ZOE!!"

I shook her shoulders,

"Please wake up...please..."

I moved the couch off her leg and almost lost it. There was blood all over it and you could see her bone. It had been twisted then snapped.

With the weight lifted off her leg she groaned.

"ZOE!?"

Her eyes opened and she locked on me and they closed again. Then they flew up and tried to sit up,

"KRIS"

She looked terrified and hunched over when she sat up. I tried not to grimace at looking at her like this,

"Zoe, it's okay."

She looked at her ankle and her hand went over her mouth. Her face screamed,

WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!?

But she didn't say anything. She pried her gaze away and looked at me,

"Kris your head..."

I reached up and touched my bump and laughed nervously,

Remember Zoe does best when someone keeps things cheerful

"Battle scars!"

She didn't look amused, at all,

Okaaaay...moving on.

"Stay there,"

I went to the kitchen and turned on the emergency t.v.

"The city has been taken, repeat the city-"

The screen went static and a new face appeared,

"Hello, I'm General Tskio, we have taken your city and will be coming to collect all men, women, and children. Men will be killed and children and women will be sent to different camps. Different fates depend on different attitudes and reactions, do not try to resist or you will be shot,"

The screen went black and I ran back to Zoe,

"We have to go, now."

Zoe looked down at her ankle and tried to stand up. She put her balance on one leg and held the other up.

She tried to walk but it didn't work very well, considering she collapsed and I had to catch her.

"Yeah, okay not happening,"

I looked around and put my arm around her. I led her to the kitchen and got a thick bed cover.

"Sit."

Zoe looked at the cover and back up at me,

"I don't-"

"Sit!"
