Panic took control of my head. With all the chaos, I only knew one thing for certain: Kris wasn't with me, and that was a problem. "KRIS!"
The nurse frantically tried to calm me down, "It's okay she-"
I cut her off with a screech, "KRISTY!"
Jeremy ran in, "Zoe!?" He grabbed the nurse's arm and shoved her away. Once holding my shaking shoulders, his voice softened, "Zoe it's okay, Kristy went out but she'll back soon. I'm here for now, please calm down."
I heard his words clearly unlike the nurse's as he forced me to make eye contact. I focused on his expressions. Worry clouded all his other feelings...well except one.
My breathing slowed until I glances over and saw the nurse again. Jeremy noticed the change, "Zoe stop, look at me."
My eyes flicked back to his, the pleading tone poisoning his kind words hurt me. Guilt made it feel like my stomach turned before being stabbed multiple times.
Good job, look what've done you freak. I flinched at the remark in my head.
"Can you please sit back down?" Too many responses littered my head, so not trusting my mouth to speak I numbly nodded. He slowly led me back to the bed where I sat down. As I drew my legs up to my chest he sat down next to me, "Zoe trust me, it's gonna be okay, I need to go talk to the doctors now for you alright?" My eyes were focused on the blank, white wall in front of me. "I'm not leaving until you say something."
Overlapping screams deafened my ears, so I just muttered quietly, "I'm sorry."
I didn't want to look at him, I knew what his expression would be. Jeremy quietly got up and exited without another word. Tears had started falling at some point, but I only became aware of them once I was alone.
A taunting, sing-song voice echoed around, He's here Zo-so, you don't even know who he is, but he remembers you, and he's gonna pay you back.
I closed my eyes, No, you're wrong, Kris and Jeremy will protect me from...whoever he is, I know they will, they won't let me down. They won't let me down, they won't let me down, they won't let me down.....
