I fell asleep in Zoe's room sitting on a chair. My neck ached from the position it had stayed in all night. I looked at my watch to see the time was 8:45. I groaned as it made a little dying noise before turning off and leaned my head back trying to completely wake up. Zoe made a noise in her sleep so I tried to turn my head and see.
She suddenly screamed out, "Don't! Please!"
Now wide awake, I ran over to her bed. "Zoe, it's okay, calm down."
Killer jumped up on the bed to lay her head on Zoe's lap. After glancing around the room frantically, Zoe took a deep breath.
"It's okay now," I tried to talk soothingly.
Zoe shook her head, "Killer has deemed Haley untrustworthy."
I nodded, "That's great. Well, I got to go, but you stay here, and I'll see you later..."
As I trailed off Zoe's widened in panic but she quickly looked back down muttering, "Whatever."
"Okaaaaay," I slooowly walked to the door then left. I ran down the stairs two at time.
I can't believe I'm doing this, I hesitated before pushing the door outside open and heading toward the warehouse.
Phoebe herded the children away from the warehouse, "Go, hurry."
"PHOEBE!"
Chloe turned at hearing my yell, "Turn back! Run while you can!"
Phoebe hushed her, "Quiet, she'll hear you, go."
The children scampered off.
"I already heard," I remarked once I got closer.
"Not you, I meant Chip."
Rethinking my plan for the fourth time, I decided there was no other way, "Where is she? I need her."
Phoebe stared at me, "If you're feeling brave...inside." She pointed to the warehouse.
I muttered, "All I ever get to be," as I walked in.
No noise came from the warehouse and everyone stood in a group staring at Chip from across the room.
"Um, hellooo!?" The people frantically waved their arms motioning for me to be quiet.
Chip looked up from the box she had been rummaging in, "Phoebe's outside."
"Don't need her."
She raised an eyebrow, "Then did you just come to lower the intelligence in the atmosphere?"
Several of the younger adults fled from the warehouse while others muttered about my death. I bit my tongue, "I need you."
Chip completely turned around to face the gasping crowd, "One more person makes a sound the others will be picking up your pieces." She glared at each of them in turn, "Also, did I say we aren't doing anything today? Because I don't remember saying everyone could stand around and do nothing."
The group slowly dispersed and began shuffling around doing aimlessly tasks such as pushing a box an inch closer to another box or making a bed that had already been made. She turned back to the box but clearly spoke to me, "What do you want?"
"Well, I'd like to compliment you on your ability to keep everyone under control." I had to admit, not many people could have that large a group move at one remark.
"I seriously hope that's not all you came to say," she snapped bitterly.
I resisted the urge to just walk out. "Um, well, I need someone to keep watch over Zoe's room, since she's grounded and we don't need anyone invading."
