“Let me explain.” Michael offered.
“You better do that young man.” Mr. Abdallah threatened.
The visitors were now frightened as the situation had become volatile.
“When my wife Tracy died, I lost my reason to live. Anything that reminded me of her caused me a lot of pain. If it was not for Naomi and the support of Mary, I would not have made it.”
“So you replaced my granddaughter with your personal assistant, although that couldn’t he hard since they look so much alike.” Mr Abdallah interrupted.
Mary suddenly stood up in anger.
“Am tired of people alleging that I look like Mr. Oketch’ late wife! Let me tell you this. When I started working for Naomi’s father, I fell in love with his wife, she was like an older sister to me and her death hit me terribly. I lost the only person who was like family to me. Just before she died she called me aside told me to do her favour and I was not tell Mr. Oketch about it till time was right. I don’t know whether this is the best time but believe you me, you have forced my hand. I hope she will forgive me for this and I just hope am not going against her wish.” Mary wailed very emotionally.
“Sit down my child.” Mrs Abdallah rose to and placed her arm around Mary’s shoulder. “Forgive the old geezer here. He gets so emotional when our children are mentioned. The fact that we do not have a heir to take over our property disturbs him. We had hoped Michael would do that but with the loss of Tracy and his absence in our life had not gone well with my husband. We are nearing our graves and we have no heir but now with Naomi, we can handle over to her what was her mother’s legacy. It seems from what we gathered, the two of you are in love and want to marry?” She said it but in a questioningly way.
“Thanks right grandma. I am sure you all understand, if I say something on behalf of Michael as he is not good with speeches when he gets emotional. That’s a lessons I learnt from his late wife. She had fed me with a lot of his likes and dislikes. The two of them loved each very much, their lives together was a continuous honeymoon. My joining their employ gave them time to be together especially during Tracy’s last days. When she passed, Michael was devastated. Memories of Tracy distressed him seriously. Do you realise it’s only today that he was able to tell Naomi about you people. About my relationship with Michael, well I don’t know where to begin.”
“Start from the bringing my child and please get seated.” Mr Abdallah warmly told her.
“Thank you sir.” Then she sat down. The room was silent. Naomi was still riling with anxiety as she waited to hear the news that she had been hoping to ever hear like forever. “when Tracy called me, she made me promise to always look after her husband and daughter-yet-to-be-born. I was to give them all the love I had as if It was her doing so. I begged her to release me from her husband but I promised that I would bring up her daughter as my own. She would not hear of it. Her husband was part of the package. She felt guilty that she left him prematurely before she had given all the love she had for him and she wanted me to take over and that’s the only thing that was to give her peace of mind in a death. So I promised and it was just three days ago after 18 years that Naomi loved me back me as her mother and this late morning Michael confessed his love for me again after 18 years.” Then she leant back in her seat giving the room time to digest the information.
“Come here my child.” Grandma Cecilia called.
“My child you have done and very honourable thing, fulfilling the wish of a dying mother and wife. Tracy must have seen very good qualities in you to entrust with the love of her life.”
“Yes grandma, though I have never felt I deserved the honour till a few days ago. Naomi opened the flood gates of love in both our lives. And I bet her meeting Peter, started everything. We all grateful for what he has awoken in us, otherwise we would not be here at this moment.” Mary confessed.
