The skeletal staff of Quick service, sat gloomily in their office all their thoughts on Peter’s state of health. The empty sit that Peter previously occupied was conspicuously empty. Alice had got an off from her work place to watch over Peter and the others promised to pass by during lunch hour.

At 11.00 am on the dot, the door opened to reveal an exceptionally beautiful girl, Her natural long black hair tied at the back of her head. She wore A simple cotton dress of light blue colour and a Dark blue cardigan.

They all looked up.

-          What does she want delivered? They all wondered.

“Excuse me, I do not know whether am at the right place but am looking for someone and I was directed here. Does Peter Wanjao work here?”

-          Nice one a next of kin at last. Jane thought to herself

“Yes he does. Are you related?” Ian queried.

“Well no am just a friend, why does it matter? Has he done something wrong and where is he?” Naomi asked with a trace of fear in her voice.

“First of all am Ian, that’s Jane and Anne. Peter has done nothing wrong but we have been trying to reach his family but we cannot get his contacts. His cell phone is missing. So if you could help us we will be very grateful.” Ian assured the young lady.

“Please tell me what is going on. Is he in some kind of trouble? Please I got to see him. We only met on Saturday at the club and I had to ask around to get here. I know nothing about him apart from his name. Am Naomi Oketch”

“Please sit down Naomi.” Jane offered. “Peter fell sick on Saturday night or early Sunday Monday we are not sure, but he was found in a state of semi-coma by his neighbours.  He was checked for all kinds of ills but nothing has shown up. The last meal he ate was with a lady friend and they shared the same plate. She did not get sick. The situation has baffled the doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital where we took him. Up to now there has been no progress in his state of health. The doctors and the nurses have been giving us very queer reports of his conditions but they would not allow us to see him as they have isolated him in a makeshift room in the basement of the hospital away from the public’s eyes. We will be going there during the lunch break in an hour and half. So you are welcome to wait we go together.”

Naomi sat down to digest the staggering information. Her peter could be dying; he shared a meal with a lady. Who is she to him?

It was unfortunate that Naomi was troubled by the fact Peter was seeing another woman and not with his failed state of health.

“Will I be able to wait till 12.30?  The waiting will kill me. I got go now.” Naomi announced as she stood up. She had to see Peter.

“Even if you go now, you will not see him as they will not let you in as it is not yet visiting hours. You should try to occupy yourself here as you wait that will take the stress off your mind.” Anne advised. “We can show you some minor tasks to perform so as to keep you busy.”

Ian showed Naomi what Peter did and before long she had gotten the hung of it. As they worked, they filled Naomi in on Peter’s background as much as they knew which was not much and they reassured her that Alice was nothing serious in Peter’s life, just an attempt to get him. But they believed that Naomi was the one since Alice had disclosed that Peter had come home declaring he had found love.

That gave back Naomi her life, and the customers that came met a very cheerful beautiful girl handling them efficiently and politely. A few asked the whereabouts of Peter and were sadden to hear of his fate. He was loved by the customers but Naomi did not let him down. Her efficiency was remarkable.
