Epilogue
Zayn Malik's P.O.V. :
I raised the cigarette to my lips, inhaling the sweet smoke into my lungs. I watched from afar as the boys and Max stood in line, waiting to give their tickets to the lady at the front. I should go over there and hug her one more time, I thought to myself. No, you'll risk the memories coming back. It'll be too much for you to handle.
Max held hands with Niall and Louis, while Liam was getting a piggy back ride from Harry. They all looked so happy without me. It's like I never really mattered to them. I wasn't as important as the rest of them.
Minutes later, I watched them board the plane. I stood by the glass wall, watching as the plane took off down the runway. I watched as the wheels left the ground. I watched as the plane soared high above the sky. I watched as it disappeared out of sight. I watched the love of my life go to a different country.
And I'll never forget her.
I'll never forget the cold nights we spent in my flat, playing Sorry! Sliders. Or the way she snuggled deep into my chest without knowing it. Or how in the mornings, she would scamper away and pretend it never happened. I'll remember every little thing about her. From the way she laughs to the way she wiggled her toes in the morning. Everything she did was cute to me.
As I left the airport and hailed a cab, I scrolled through the endless pictures we took on my phone. There were ones where we were napping and Louis was standing in front of us with a thumbs up. Then there were ones of the little things she did. Painting. Snuggling into the blankets. Blowing out the candles on her cake. Every moment I shared with her would be cherished forever.
We were still the same teenagers trying to win. We might both be millionaires now, but in my heart, I know she'll never change. She was special, and you couldn't deny it. Really, all we were doing was trying to beat each other. But that's just how we were. You could say it was more of a :Boy Vs. Girl thing, but it was more than that.
It was a Criminal Vs. Criminal thing.
