Chapter 70: Mia

"You lying to me, Rockett?" Vic asks me.

"For the tenth time, no." I say. "I've seen your husband every day for the past fifteen days and he's sober. Cranky and irritating but sober, he's really trying for you."

"I know, I know." She mumbles.

"If you know he's trying then why are you avoiding him?" I wonder and she sighs.

"It's complicated." Vic tells me and I smile.

"Then level with me." I bargain.

Vicy is quiet for a while. I'm not sure if she's trying to figure out what to say or if she's trying to figure out how to kill me without there being witnesses.

"I'm completely in love with him but I'm not sure if he's the same person I fell in love with." She admits after a while. "Like maybe I fell in love with Bruce and CC isn't Bruce."

"That's insane, Vic." I tell her and she slaps my shoulder. I laugh. "If you're so dead set that CC isn't Bruce, tell me about Bruce."

"Bruce was the sweetest guy on the planet. He was funny and kind. He loved Mia and I to death. Then LA made him CC." Vic explains.

"You just described CC." I tell her. "I mean he married you and has almost killed me on several occasions because of Minnie, so sounds about right to me."

"Where's your pregnant girlfriend?" Vic asks eager to change the subject. "It's like eleven."

"Sleeping." I tell her. "The baby is making her tired."

"There was a time where she slept during the day and stayed up all night reading." She says and I smile. "Do you have any idea how scared she is?"

"Mia?" I wonder.

"I've never seen that little girl scared." Vic admits. "She scared of screwing up, she's scared of giving birth, she's scared you're gonna leave."

"And she told you all this?" I wonder and she shakes her head.

"Call it mother's intuition." She says.

"I love her more than anything, I'm not leaving her any time soon." I remind her and she smirks.

"Good, I'll be there to kick your ass if you try." Vicy says and I laugh. "You should go check on her."

"That's the nicest way I've ever been told to fuck off." I laugh. "But I think you're right."

"I'm always right." She states as I get up. "G'night, drummer."

"G'night, mother in law." I say as I get to the stairs.

"Don't call me that." Vicy laughs and I smile.

I walk upstairs to the master bedroom and quietly open the door. Minnie is asleep on her back which is kinda weird since she usually sleeps on her stomach. I lay down beside her and move the covers down to her waist. I roll her shirt up, but still can't believe there's a baby in there.

"Hey ankle biter, I can't wait to see you and I can't wait to get my girl back, you're kinda draining her, kid." I gently kiss Mia's stomach. "You weren't an accident, you were a surprise. I'll marry your mom one day, I promise. No matter what, you and your mom will always be the most important things in my life."

I'm going to be a dad, holy shit.
