Chapter 7- Crossing the line

Emma's POV

Saturday Morning

Buzz, buzz.

"What the f**k! It's Saturday morning—who could possibly be annoying me?" I muttered to myself, groggily getting up and walking to my desk to grab my phone.

"Great, it's Ethan," I said sarcastically.

Ethan: :) Good morning, sunshine.

Emma: What the f**k, it's Saturday, dude. What's the problem?

Ethan: :D Wanna hang with us today? I'll pick you up at 8.

Emma: Where are we going?

Ethan: East side.

Emma: :! Okay, cool.

Ethan: Bye :)

I placed my phone on the dresser and crawled back into bed. I was half-asleep again when I heard the time.

I woke up at 7:00 AM, stretched, and dragged myself out of bed. I went to the bathroom, took a hot bath, washed my hair, and brushed my teeth. When I came out of the bathroom in a towel, I dried my hair under the dryer. I decided on a black spaghetti strap blouse, my black jacket, and black skinny jeans. After doing my makeup lightly and applying dark lipstick, I grabbed my phone and headed downstairs.

"Hey, Mom," I greeted her.

"Hey, hun. Where are you off to?" she asked.

"East side," I replied.

"Okay, sweetheart. Amber and I are going to Grandma's for the weekend. Be careful," she said, kissing my cheek before walking out.

"Bye, sis," Amber called from the door.

"Bye, babe," I said as she left.

Now that Mom and Amber were gone, I was home alone. Sweet! I went into the fridge, grabbed a bottle of cold milk, and made myself a bowl of cereal. After I finished eating, I went into the living room, turned on the TV, and found that "The Vampire Diaries" was on—perfect.

Knock, knock.

That must be Ethan. I went to the door and opened it.

"Hey," Ethan greeted me with a smile.

"Hey," I replied, stepping aside. "Ready?"

"Yeah, I'll be out in a sec," I said as I walked back into the house. I grabbed the keys from the island, turned off the TV, and headed outside.

The ride to the east side was about 15 minutes. When we arrived, I got out of the car and looked around the area.

Jehu's voice broke through. "Emma."

"Yeah?" I answered.

"Over there is the borderline between east side and west side. Never cross that line," he said sternly, pointing to the other side.

"Why?" I asked, concerned.

"Well," Ethan added, "east side belongs to Almighty, and west side belongs to Busshead. If you cross that line, you're in their territory. And if they cross it, they're in ours."

A Few Hours Later

"Bye, guys," I said, waving my hand as I made my way into the house. I placed my phone on the island and grabbed an apple, heading to the living room to turn on the TV. "Phineas and Ferb" was on. I sat down to eat my apple when the power went out.

I walked upstairs to check the house, but everything seemed fine. When I came back downstairs, I heard a noise.

"Who's there?" I called out, but when I turned the corner, I saw some members of the Busshead gang.

"What the f**k! What are you doing here?" I exclaimed.

I started to move toward the kitchen when someone grabbed my hair. It was Austin... The others were standing at the door, and he was trying to get back at me for the punch I gave him earlier.

I struggled and managed to make him fall. When he hit the ground, I climbed on top of him and started choking him. But he kicked me, and I fell backward. He quickly climbed on top of me, choking me in return. I groaned in pain.

"You okay, babe?" he taunted, his voice dripping with mockery.

I shot him a disgusted look. "Get off me."

He laughed, but then I gathered my strength and punched him square in the face. I managed to grab a glass and smashed it into his forehead. He fell to the ground, and I walked to the table to sit down and catch my breath.

I poured myself a glass of water to calm my nerves. But suddenly, I felt someone grab the back of my neck. They started slamming my head against the table. Everything went black.
