The next morning, despite the pain I still had from my encounter with Zachary, I managed to get myself dressed and escort myself to breakfast. I wanted as little to do with Laura as possible. If she was a demon I don't need her snooping around me. As soon as breakfast was finished my grandfather approached me. "Scarlet dear," he said, "may I speak with you for a moment in my office?" I nodded and followed him. This is it. He's getting rid of me. Tossing me to the streets like rubbish. I'll just have to be strong and show no weakness. We walk into his office. "Have a seat dear," he said gesturing to a chair in front if his work desk. I sat down and was prepared to show as little emotion as possible. "Now Rylie," said my grandfather. I was a bit surprised to hear him call me by my real name. "It has been brought to my attention that you have met someone out in our garden." I sat there with almost no expression. "It was only the gardener," I huffed. I knew it wasn't true. I knew he wasn't really a gardener. I was only lying to myself. He shook his head. "My dear we do not have a gardener here at Blackwood manor. The garden is tended to by all the servants here at the estate." I crossed my arms. Then the bad news came. "Because I was made aware that apparently there is someone hiding in the garden," he started to say, "we will have the garden searched quite thoroughly and you will not be aloud in the garden for now." I was hurt and sad. I thought this was very unfair. Then I remembered something and asked my grandpa a question. "Grandfather, who exactly told you of my encounter with someone in the garden?" He smiled. "Oh our lovely maid Laura notified me," he said sweetly. I could feel my cheeks getting hot with anger. The nerve of Laura! When I first got here I thought she was the sweetest person that one could ever meet. Now I realize that was all a facade. And I fell for it. How could I be so stupid! "That double-crossing demon of a woman," I muttered under my breath while clenching my fists. "What was that dear?" Asked my grandfather. "Oh nothing," I replied. Then I got up from my seat, nodded that I understood the new rules, and walked to my room. "How will I ever see Garren again?" I asked myself. As I walked I bumped right into Laura. "How will you ever see who?" She questioned me. I gave her a look of disgust. "No one important," I muttered. Laura smiled. "Someone seems to be in a little bit of a bad mood," she said with a giggle. I couldn't stand this act of hers anymore so I walked to my room and sat on my bed. I was trying to figure out what motive Laura might have for banning me from the garden. Suddenly it hit me. She banned me from the garden so I couldn't get to Garren. And she made sure to ask that the garden be searched. That way Garren would be forced to leave or hide and he wouldn't be around to protect me. Then she could sick her despicable demons on me. I shuddered. Last time I encountered a demon I barely escaped with my life. If Garren hadn't been there I would probably be dead. I couldn't let Garren leave. He was my guardian angel. I needed to think up a plan and fast.
