I patted his back. "It's alright," I whispered. "You don't have to continue with the story if you don't want." He looked up at me. His deep blue eyes full of sadness. "No," he said. "You deserve to know my dear. Therefore I will continue." He took another deep breath and began from where he left off. "When I woke up I was tied down and I was surrounded by demons. I looked down to see that I was placed right in the middle of a pentagram, the sign of evil. The large group of demons gathered around in a circle surrounding me. None of them said a word except for an older woman who seemed to be the leader. She stepped forward and looked down at me. She kicked me hard and then said 'poor little sorry excuse for a protector.' Then she stepped back into the circle of demons as they all joined hands. She started a chant an the rest of them followed. The pentagram began to glow. I then realized what was happening. They were trying to turn me into one of them. Into a demon. My eyes were turning red and my wings were turning black. Soon all of the feathers would fall out and they would be gone. I had to do something quickly so I struggled to my feet, even though I was still tied up, and jumped out of the circle. Once I was on my feet I hobbled away from the mob of demons and hid. I cut myself free with a rock I found in the forest. I had to check my wings. I unfolded them and just as I had thought they were no longer the beautiful white of an angel of heaven. They were the darkness of hell and the demons who dwell there." He clenched his fists in anger. I hugged him to try to comfort him. Andrea patted his back. I swear I saw a tear run down his cheek. He sat up and clenched his fists again. "I tried to fly back up to my family," he said fighting back another tear. "But because of what those monsters did to me I was banished to the Earth. I was neither demon nor angel anymore. I was in between the two. Aside from the fact my wings were black now I was marked." He pulled down the collar of his shirt to reveal a black vine covered in thorns. "This mark runs from my neck down to my wrist," he said. "It is a constant reminder of my failure as a protector. I roamed around London all alone but then I had an idea. If I found the Rose and protected her, maybe I could prove myself as a protector. I spent months hiding in this garden looking for you Rylie. Then one day a girl appeared in the garden and I helped her to her feet after I had accidentally knocked her down. Her name was Scarlet." He smiled and I smiled back. "She showed me the mark over her beautiful green eye of hers and I knew it was you Rylie. And I fell for you instantly. At first I was only trying to find you to get back to being a protector, but the minute I met you I knew I would never let anything happen to you because," he paused and passionately kissed me again. "Because I love you." I blushed a deep shade of red and Andrea just looked at us. "Awww look at the happy couple," she said giggling.

"Garren," I said. "I love you too." Then I remembered something. "How did you find your sister if you couldn't get back into heaven?" I asked.

"She found me tonight," he said smiling at her. "I've missed you so very much," said Andrea. He nodded back to her in agreement. Then he looked to me. "And don't worry Rylie. They won't catch me. I'll always be around." I smiled but then I yawned. "You should get some sleep," Garren said. He scooped me up in his arms and unfurled his wings. He flew me up to my bedroom window, took me inside and tucked me into bed. "Goodnight my rose," he whispered. Within minutes I was asleep.
