The next day I got up bright and early without anyone waking me up. The sky was gray with rain clouds. Oh London. You never fail to have the rainiest weather in the world. I went and sat at my vanity. I stared at my reflection in the mirror for a while as I brushed my hair. Then I tucked my hair behind my ear revealing the mark of the Rose covering my eye. I thought about everything Garren and Andrea told me last night. "How, out of every man and woman in the world, was I chosen to be the Rose?" I whispered to my reflection as I traced the lines of the mark with my finger. "I still don't fully understand what it means. Garren gave me so many answers but in doing so," I paused and put my hair back over the mark, "he gave me so many more questions." With all these thoughts buzzing about my brain like a swarm of insects, I stood up from my vanity and walked to my wardrobe. I picked out a lovely red dress. In fact, it was scarlet. How ironic. I had a beautiful headband to go with it. As I started to walk downstairs to begin my usual routine, another thought occurred to me. "Garren and Andrea," I muttered. "Did they get caught? Are they alright?" I rushed to my window to see the garden crawling with policemen and investigators. They looked like they couldn't find a trace of anyone anywhere on the premises below. I smirked. "You fools," I said. "Do you really think you will be able t find and arrest two angels?" I laughed a little. When I looked down again from my window I noticed something on my windowsill. It was a sealed, red envelope with a rose taped to it. I pushed my window open quietly and grabbed the envelope before the wind almost blew it away from me. With the envelope in my hand I walked over to my bed, sat down, and carefully started to open it. I took the bright red rose off the front and held it delicately in my hand. Then I pulled a folded up piece of paper. It was a letter. I unfolded it and began to read:
Dear Rylie,
In case you were worrying about my sister and I, and I know you were, we are alright. We found a close place to hide out and we learned that the guards will not be patrolling the garden at night. We will still be able to meet under the willow tree. I just wanted to let you know that tonight we will starting to show you more about your unbelievable powers. We will also elaborate more on what the Rose is and other important information you should know. I even have a present for you. When night falls meet Andrea and I outside in our usual meeting area. Until tonight my rose.
With love,
Your guardian angel Garren
I smiled and could feel myself blushing. Garren was the first person I ever said "I love you" to. I would always keep my heart locked up and hidden. I never truly loved anyone. Not even people from my family. I never knew my real parents and Margret was a disgrace. I would hardly call her a parent. I was just afraid of getting hurt or loosing people that I did love. Garren changed all of that. I fell back onto the bed clutching the rose close to my heart and smiling. "I love you Garren," I whispered. "I truly do." I could have lay there all day when I heard a knock at my door. "Miss Scarlet," said the voice. I could tell by that fake, sweet tone that it was that despicable Laura. "I hate to bother you but your presence is requested in the dining hall for breakfast." I placed the rose on my vanity and hid the letter under my pillow. I didn't want anyone to find it. I walked to the door and walked past Laura to the staircase without giving her a second look. I swear Garren and Andrea are the only ones I can ever trust.
