It was about four in the morning when I woke up. I sat up quickly. My heart was racing and I was breathing heavily. I grabbed my head to try to stop my pounding headache. "That was quite a peculiar dream," I muttered. I heard a chuckle. "It wasn't a dream though," said a voice. I turned my head toward the door nervously. My muscles tensed. I was in a state of fear only to be relieved by two figures with beautiful wings. Garren and Andrea stepped forward toward me, folded their wings tight against their back, and each took a seat on my bed. "W-what do you mean, that wasn't a dream?" I questioned. Andrea smiled. "You actually destroyed Laura." She said. "Not to mention the fact that you have begun to unlock your power as the Rose. I can assure you everything you have gone through tonight was absolutely real." My mind was racing. Could everything that happened really be true? I examined my body to see battle scars and bruises. It must have happened then. What else could explain these marks? Garren smiled and tucked my hair back behind my ears. "Looks like my rose has a lot of strength and courage," he said. I blushed slightly. His dark hair fell in front of his deep blue eyes. I could tell he was blushing slightly too. Then Andrea nudged him with her elbow and looked at me. "Romeo here insisted that we stay here with you to make sure you were safe," she rolled her eyes at her brother and laughed a little. "He has something for you as well. What are you waiting for? Give it to her!" Garren nodded and reached into the pocket of his trousers and pulled out a little, red package. He then proceeded to hand it to me. "Go ahead," he said. "Open it." I nodded and began to carefully unwrap the gift. Once opened I could see a beautiful amulet with a blue-purple stone on a silver chain. I gasped. "Oh it's so beautiful," I said stunned. "Thank you so very much." I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him. Garren hugged me back while Andrea clasped her hands together. "Awww," she said. "You guys are just perfect together." I blushed even more. "Here," Garren said grabbing the amulet. "Allow me." He unhooked the chain and placed it around my neck. I marveled at it. The gem even appeared to be glowing slightly. "It's not just a pretty piece of jewelry," he smirked. I was puzzled. "It isn't?" I questioned. "What is it for then?" He smiled his devilish smile and then walked to the large window. He opened it up quietly and then walked back to me. "I'll show you," he said. Andrea was laughing in an 'I know something you don't know' kind of way. Garren took a hold of my hand and led me to the window. Suddenly he jumped out. I panicked and looked out the window only to see Garren unfurl his wings and take flight. He soared around the garden and then back up to the window. He smirked. "Your turn." I stared at him like he was crazy. "What?" I asked. "I can't fly. I'm human. More importantly, I don't have wings!" He grabbed a hold of my hand again. I was calm for a moment and felt safe. Then Andrea gave me a hard shove causing me to fall out the window. I began to scream and closed my eyes. I could feel myself falling but I never hit the ground. Garren was still holding onto me. "Wave your hand in front of the amulet," he said. "It will give you a pair of wings of your own." I was hesitant but I had learn to trust him so I nodded at him and waved my hand in front of the glowing gem. He then let go of my hand. I panicked and yelled but I didn't fall. I looked over my shoulder to see silverish-white wings on my back. I smiled in disbelief. "Oh wow," I muttered to myself. "I can fly!" I decided to give them a test flight. I flew around the garden and up above the tree tops. I soared over the roof of the manor and up past the clouds. I could have flown for hours but I decided to go back to Garren and Andrea. They were both outside my window, wings unfolded, clapping in admiration. "Wonderful job," praised Andrea. "You're a natural." I thanked her but I was still a bit confused. "Why did you give me this," I asked. Andrea abruptly answered me. "The power of the Rose is a power granted by the angels," she explained. "Therefore you technically have the abilities of an angel and what kind of angel would you be without wings?" I smiled even brighter and then hugged the both of them while we were still in the air. "Thank you," I said. "Your welcome," said Andrea. "It is an amazing experience to fly." "No," I said. "That's not what I meant. Flying is a joy and the necklace is amazing but," a tear of happiness escaped my eye. "You two are the only friends I have ever had," I said in a more quiet voice. They both squeezed me tighter and Garren kissed my cheek. They each helped me back into my bedroom. I waved to them and said goodbye for the night. I yawned. I was exhausted. I crawled into my bed and started to close my eyes. "Destroying demons and learning how to fly," I whispered. "Just another day in they odd life of Rylie Knight." With the amulet still around my neck I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
