(2 weeks later)

Melody walked out of the front double doors of the family mansion. She didn't want to be there but she had to, and anyway, she had to say goodbye. Ever since Garroth found out he was going to guard camp, it was all he could talk about. To be honest, Melody had avoided him a little so she wouldn't have to listen. Every time he mentioned how happy he was that he was going, it was like a needle pricking her heart. How could he be happy about leaving her? Was she not a good sister? Would he even miss her if he's so happy to leave? She had tried talking to her half-brother Vylad about it, but they just weren't as close, and he thought that it was great that Garroth was going to guard camp. But two weeks had flown by, and Garroth was about to leave. As Melody walked out, she saw her twin brother dressed in the apprentice guard uniform, and felt a pathetic tug at her heart. She had given up trying to convince her parents to let him stay, and there was nothing she could do. And she hated that feeling, feeling like she was trapped, and couldn't get out on her own, as if she needed to be recused. Like some frilly little princess in a tower, Melody had never liked the expectations that came with being a princess, dresses and makeup and manners, she preferred to play with her brothers in the mud.

"Melody!" The sound of Garroths' voice interrupted her train of thought.

"Garroth, you look great." Melody said, not trusting herself to say much, she didn't want to start crying in front of everyone, and show Garroth that she didn't want him to go.

"So do you Melody, you look like a princess, a guard and a princess, we make a good team." Melody didn't want to be the princess, if anything, she wanted to go to guard camp with Garroth. She had even asked her father Lord Garte, but he said that it was 'improper for young ladies to play with weapons'. Insulting.

"Thanks Garroth, a-and um, goodbye." Melody replied, trying hard not to get emotional, or at least not show her emotion, she had been crying on the inside the moment she saw him in that uniform.

"Goodbye Melody, I'll write you every week!" Garroth said, giving her a smile. Every week? I used to talk to you every day... Melody thought sadly.

"So will I...Bye." Garroth just gave her a sad nod, before embracing her, then proceeding to hug the rest of her brothers and her parents. Everyone was sorrowful, except for her brother Zane, who just looked bored with the whole ordeal. Finally the good-byes were said, and it was time for him to leave. Before he got onto his horse, he looked at Melody with a heart-breaking look in his eyes, and for a second she thought the he might stay, but he came up to her, and handed her the light blue scarf he was wearing.

"It would look better on you anyway." He said sadly. It was all Melody could do not to start tearing up.

And so he got onto the horse, waved, and started his horse at a trot down the road. Everyone started walking back inside, except for Melody and Vylad. Melody watched Garroth until he was no longer in sight, and then she let the tears flow freely down her cheeks, and fell to her knees, sobbing quietly. Though Vylad tried to comfort her by placing his hand on her shoulder, Melody could not be consoled-She was mourning the loss of her twin brother.
