Melody stood before the full-body mirror in her bed room, looking at herself. Her father Lord Garte had wasted no time finding a suitor, it had only been two days ago that Melody had cried in her bedroom, wishing to be saved. But nobody had come to rescue her, and eventually Melody had to pick herself up, and learn her hardest lesson yet, you have to learn to save yourself. Now she was in her finest attire, A soft pink dress, flowy at the bottom, and tight at the top, white flats, and a red scarf for extra color. Her hair was up in a simple bun, and she wore no jewelry. She didn't want to impress anybody today, but she had been forced to. Her father had ordered the maids to make her look beautiful and regal, and they had done their job well. For today, she was to meet the man she had been betrothed to, Prince Caleb. He was the son of the lord of Kahakra Village. Supposedly the marriage was to reassure that O'khasis had 'good ties' with the surrounding villages. But Melody saw right through that poor guise. Her father just wanted to be rid of her, a fact that Melody tried not to let bother her. Her father used to be kind and good, but one night he fell dangerously ill, and after he recovered, he was never the same. Melody was lost in her thoughts when a knock sounded at the door.
"Come in." Melody said quietly. One of the maids entered, presumably to do some final touches on Melody's outfit. The maid went to work quickly, securing a small tiara onto Melody's head, and giving her a small blood-red purse with a fan to match. After she was done, the maid left, telling Melody she had five minutes until she was expected in the mansion's garden. Looking at herself in the mirror, she felt so alien, like she didn't belong here, in this mansion, in these clothes. But she couldn't leave, she was trapped. Trying to make herself feel better, Melody opened the drawer of her dresser that held Garroths' scarf, and Vylads' bracelet. Acting quickly, she put the two items into her purse, and she felt a bit braver, like her brothers were here with her, supporting her. Gathering her courage, she slid the purse onto her arm, and opened the fan, holding it so that it covered the bottom half of her face. Not feeling ready at all, Melody opened the door and began the walk to the gardens.
When she arrived, she saw her parents and Zane standing there, speaking quietly with a boy who looked a little older than her. Seeing her, her father smiled and said,
"Ah, Melody! There you are, allow me to introduce you to prince Caleb of Nahakra Village." Upon hearing his name, the boy bowed, a cocky grin on his face. He had ashy black hair, and light green eyes. He had a slight build, and was dressed in a semi-formal suit. Melody figured that he would be rather good-looking if it weren't for the proud way he stood, and he looked at her as if he already owned her, it sickened Melody. However she said nothing, because she didn't want to incur the wrath of her father. So instead she simply curtsied, still holding the fan to her face. After introductions, the group made small talk, and then left Melody and Caleb alone to wander around the gardens. Melody knew that this was just a way for her parents to try and make her fall in love with him. Indeed, the gardens did have a romantic feeling, but it was soiled by Caleb's smirk."I thought there were three princes of O'Khasis, not just one." Caleb remarked sarcastically.
"They left." Melody answered in her most monotone voice, she didn't trust herself to speak much, she was too busy trying to keep her emotions bundled up inside.
'What? Did they get scared off by me? Cowards." Caleb said.
"My brothers would never be scared by you." Melody snapped, her anger flaring.
"Well they must not be very good brothers if they left you all alone with me. Anything could happen." After saying this, Caleb snaked his arm around Melody's waist, grinning haughtily.
"Don't touch me." Melody said, pulling away from him. Caleb just laughed.
"You better get used to it girl, soon, i'll practically own you." He said, a wicked gleam in his green eyes. Caleb stopped walking, and advanced toward Melody, backing her up into a tree.
"G-get away from me!" Melody said in a shaky voice, terrified that she was alone with this stranger with no one else in sight. Caleb barked out a laugh and closed the distance between them, their lips only inches apart.
"Make me." He said, a triumphant look in his eyes, his hot breath making Melody recoil against the tree. Acting on instinct, Melody brought her knee up, hard, and shoved him away from her. Caleb doubled over on himself, stumbling backwards. Before he had a chance to recover himself, Melody swung her leg, knocking his feet out from under him. Caleb landed with a hard thud, and yelled."Your gonna regret this you little-" But Melody never heard what he said next, for she was already sprinting away from him, into the forest. By now she was running on pure adrenaline, and her brain couldn't quite process what was going on around her, so she always dismissed what happened next as a figment of her imagination. While running, Melody came upon a small group of houses in a clearing, however all the men, women, and children were lying on the floor, unmoving. It was so strange that melody actually slowed down to see a man with black hair, holding a strange object in his hands run towards her, his eyes focused on some point in the distance. The man slowed down when he saw her, and she saw endless pain in his eyes. Melody stumbled back, catching her foot on a branch, and began to fall. The man reached out a hand as if to try and stop her from falling, but he couldn't reach her in time, instead, he just accidentally grabbed her red scarf, making it unravel from her neck. Melody fell and her momentum caused her to fall down the hill. Melody was hit by branches and rocks on her way down until finally, she came to a stop, half-submerged in the ocean. Her dress was torn and her eyes were tearing up from the pain. At this moment Melody felt so completely and utterly alone and betrayed, that the young girl threw herself into the ocean, not caring what happened to her. As she sank, she thought of Garroth and Vylad, and how disappointed they would be if they could see her now. But they weren't there, and before her vision turned to black, Melody wished that she could have seen them one last time...
