Melody woke up to the sound of yelling. Getting up out of bed, she look out the girls dorm window to see what the commotion was. Two people were arguing, but that wasn't what surprised Melody. All over the camp people were in their finest suits of armor, some were sparring, and others were talking to each other, standing around in large groups. Everyone seemed excited, and soon enough Melody was outside with them, dressed in her usual guard camp uniform. People gave her looks, but she was used to it, no one really seemed to like her here. Except Garroth, who was coming over to join her where she was standing.

"Hey Mel! So are you excited?" He asked her, his blue eyes shining.

"Um, no, should I be?" She asked. It did seem like something big was happening, usually at this time of day everyone is tiredly grabbing breakfast.

"Did no one tell you? Prince Caleb is coming to evaluate us!" Garroth told her, clearly buzzing with excitement. However Melody was quite the opposite of excited. She remembered Caleb well enough, though she had tried to erase him from her memory. Snooty, selfish, and spoiled, he had tried to take advantage of her when they were arranged to be married, but Melody had escaped, running away to the water village where she had lived for the next two years.

"Oh, great." Melody said, trying half-heartedly to sound excited. On the inside, she was actually scared, if he recognized her, her life would be a living hell at guard camp. Garroth gave her a strange look, an depend his mouth to say something, but was interrupted when the sound of hooves filled the camp. All the students were ushered into a line, in front of prince Caleb himself. He was just as Melody remembered him, sitting atop a great white horse looking down on them as if they were inferior. Two knights guarded him on each side as Caleb slowly rode his horse down the line, looking each and very one of them i the face with a sneer. Melody tilted her head down in hope that he would just pass by her, but he did the opposite, and stopped in front of her.

"Look at me." He commanded, as if he ruled her. Not wanting to anger him, Melody tilted her head up a fraction of an inch, and looked at him. However he wasn't satisfied. The line of students gasped as he dismounted from his horse, standing in front of Melody. Reaching out with his hand, he grabbed her chin and yanked her head up. Melody stared at him defiantly, knocking his hand away from her. The crowd looked on with horror.

"Well well well, if it itsnt prince-" Prince Caleb began to say.

"My name is Mel." She interrupted, still glaring at him. It was too late, he recognized her. Caleb looked to her left, where Garroth was standing, watching the scene unfold.

"Prince Garroth of O'Khasis, I believe?" Caleb asked. This just kept getting worse and worse.

"Yes, Prince Caleb." Garroth replied, obviously confused by the whole situation.

"Do you know this girl?" Caleb asked, some dark emotion glinting in his eyes.

"Thats Mel, sir. She has been training here for a while now."

"I see. How...curious. So, Mel," Caleb said, turning to face her once again, "This is where you ran off to after our last meeting?" Melody felt the blood drain from her face. Caleb was playing a game with her, toying with her the way a cat toys with a mouse before it eats it.

"I don't need to tell you anything." She announced defiantly. The students and instructors alike whispered to each other, amazed by this turn of events.

"I see." He said curtly. "If thats how you want to play, fine. Guards, arrest h-" But caleb got no further when Melody swung a fist at him, his right cheek connecting with her fist, knocking him onto the ground.

"Mel!" Garroth yelled with horror, staring at her wide-eyed. With guards rushing at her, Melody replied calmly,

"I outranked him anyway." leaving Garroth dumbfounded, Melody grabbed the saddle of Caleb's white horse, and pulled herself up onto it.

"Get her!" Caleb screamed in a most unprincely fashion, but he was too late, for Melody was galloping away. Away from the camp, away from Caleb, and away from her brother, Garroth. Once again, Caleb showed up and ruined everything, once again, Melody was leaving her old life behind, and going into the unknown.
