A Bit Early For Dinner

The suns warm rays streamed in through Adeline's window as she slept.
Her bedroom was quite rundown. The walls had wooden panelling, from the previous owners, which had over the years worn down and looked rather old, and dusty. The wallpaper above this had a rather vintage, floral feel to it, but was peeling and faded.
There was also very little furniture - a wooden, single bed where Adeline lay peacefully occupied one corner, matching the panelling in both colour and condition, an old wardrobe stood opposite, beside a canvas which lay sprawled out on the floor next to a few paintbrushes. On the canvas was the hazy image of a young girl, not too different in looks from Adeline herself, who appears to be flying in the sky, soaring among the clouds. If you looked closely at the floorboards, you could vaguely see paint-stains that hadn't quite been scrubbed out.
Adeline turned in her sleep, laying dangerously close to the edge of her bed. As if someone had shaken her, her eyes shot open, and she sat up. Her ginger, unruly curls rolled down her back as her emerald green eyes searched for the time on a small clock which had been nailed to the wall.
She cursed quietly as she realised the time, and swung her legs out of bed, slipping into a large jumper and jeans which hid her rather voluptuous curves, taming her hair into a long plait and pulling a mauve leather rucksack out of the wardrobe.
She quietly tiptoed out into the corridor. She hoped he would still be asleep today.
He wasn't.
"H-hellooo lovess" he slurred, still holding a can of beer. Dozens more cans were strewn across the floor. The kitchen stank of alcohol, and the balding, potbellied man who slouched on the floor in a stinking pool of alcohol.
She stood in the doorframe, unmoving, her eyes dull and emotionless hiding a wave of fear.
"C-comme a a bit closerr and giv'yer dad a peck on 'is cheeck..."
Reluctantly she crept further into the room and tapped her soft lips against his rough, unshaven cheek. As she leant over the man brought his hands to her bum and began to rub them vigorously.
Adeline winced at his touch. She had school today. He couldn't go far today. She couldn't stop him though. She didn't want any more scars.
"N-niice."
She could smell the stench of his breath as he continued to violate her.
'Save me' whimpered a voice in her head, and as if someone had heard her plea the old man passed out, and Adeline fled for school, still trembling as she straightened the back of her jeans.

"I AM TITAAAANIIIIIUUUUM!!!" screeched Kelsey, then she burst into a fit of high pitched giggles. She was sat right in the centre of the room, surrounded by people so Adeline could only catch a glimpse of her shiny, straight blonde hair and heavy black eye makeup. The girls around her were mostly blonde as well, or at least with blonde highlights, and their strappy, revealing outfits set them apart from the rest of the class. There were boys as well, one of which Kelsey was sitting in the lap of, and stroked his shoulder flirtatiously every now and then. The other boys were clad in Hollister and Abercrombie sportswear, subtly showing off toned muscles beneath. Kelsey giggled again, this time louder and the entire group began to collapse with laughter. Adeline rolled her eyes and pushed her headphones deeper into her ears, trying to drown out the sounds. She didn't notice when a tall, handsome blonde boy wearing a tailored blue shirt under an effortlessly fashionable but obviously expensive cardigan approached her and picked up her phone, and commented on the music she was listening to. And again.
He nudged her, and Adeline stared at him for a few seconds, confusion written all over her face. She then reluctantly pulled out one headphone.
"What is it..." she sighed, clearly annoyed at being dragged out of her musical world.
"I just said, how interesting it is you are listening to classical music."
She frowned at him, irritated he had disturbed her just to say this.
"Well, that's what I like. Classical, jazz, a bit of indie, nothing too..." she paused as she thought of the word. "...mainstream."
"A hipster, are we!" he smirked. "What's your name then."
"Adeline." She murmured, clearly bored with the conversation,
"Adeline! From Swan Lake! How lovely... My name is William, by the way."
Adeline smiled emotionlessly And plugged in her other headphone. That was enough talking for one day.
William didn't seem to think so.
"Have you ever considered modelling? You have just the right figure, tall and curvy. And that hair!"
Adeline shot him a glare, and tucked a strand of hair between her ear self-consciously.
"No thank you,." she murmured, and returned to music land.
William attempted to start conversation again but Adeline didn't reply.

What a nuisance.
School had always been a place of rest, and never had I cared about socialising, especially with posh boys like William Fitzgerald. I knew his type, and all about him. Just because you don't talk doesn't mean you're not listening!
The handsome devil, that was the nickname the girls gave him. A different girl every day, sleeping around and throwing money about. Just one millionth of his wealth and all my problems could be solved.
Little did he know, I was not that kind of girl.
He was good-looking. God-like, even, but I never judged by looks, if the personality is an arrogant insensitive bastard who calls himself a man.
As the teacher came in, the class slowly fell silent and I pulled it my headphones, and cursed quietly under my breath as I realised I forgot to bring my pencil case.
I turned to the person next to me.
"Sorry, can I borrow a pencil?"
A handsome blonde smirked back.
"Talking to me now, are we?"
Oh Damn.
"Yes, can I borrow a pencil?"
"ADELINE CHRISTA DO NOT TALK IN MY CLASS! WOULD YOU CARE TO TELL THE CLASS WHAT YOU WERE DISCUSSING?" screeched the teacher.
William sat back in his chair looking annoyed.
"I just asked Adeline here for a pencil."
The teacher turned to William with wide eyes. I frowned. Just because he was rich, doesn't mean that he should have been able to do whatever he wanted.
The teacher seemed surprised that someone like William would stand up for someone like me. Thanks teach.
"W-well, don't do it again please Adeline..." Stammered the teacher, losing all her previous attitude. Typical rich kid. I was grateful though, and I smiled faintly at him in thanks.
He returned a huge cheesy smile exposing his retina burning perfect white teeth, and I giggled, for the first time in many years, at how silly he looked.
The teacher shot me a glare, and William shot her a glare.
Why was he helping me?

The bell rang and I slammed shut my locker. Slinging my bag on my back, I began the 3 mile walk to the restaurant I worked in, when I felt a pair of hands on my back. Swinging round, I once again came face to face with the 'handsome devil'. I sighed.
"You again."
"Are you free after school?" he asked, ignoring my comment.
"No." I answered, keen to get started with my hike to work.
"Where are you heading? I can give you a lift."
A lift sounded great, but could I trust William not to kidnap me? I didn't really care, anything sounded better than the 3 mile walk.
"Giuseppe's Gourmet Italian."
"Bit early for dinner, isn't it?"
"I work there."
He raised his eyebrows and didn't say anything. I sighed and began to walk away, grumbling about rich kids when he grabbed my shoulder again.
"How much does he pay you?"

"£100 per second." she said sarcastically and began to walk away. I grabbed her shoulder.
"Stop grabbing my shoulder!"
"What?" I said, confused.
She rolled her eyes and tucked a strand of shiny red hair behind her ear.
"£10 per hour."
"£10 per hour?!" I repeated, my eyes wide.
"It's better than McDonalds okay you rich bastard!" she snapped at me and I winced.
"Look, Adeline, I didn't mean to offend you..."
"Well you did. You've probably never worked an hour in your life but I've never stopped." she turned and her eyes were sad. "I have no choice so just stop making fun of me and go and drink tea or whatever people like you do."
For some reason my heart pained to see her sad.
"I'll pay you £50 pounds an hour. Or a hundred. Don't go trekking over to Giuseppe's every day."
"I don't want your charity." she snapped.
"Who said it was charity?" I stepped closer to her and she looked up and me uncertainly. I pulled my Vertu Gold phone out of my pocket and speed dialled my butler, Joseph.
"Joseph, pop over to Giuseppe's Italian and tell him Adeline's not coming back. And call the limo with drinks. Yeah. Sure. Thanks." I pressed the end button.
"You just quit my job!" exclaimed Adeline.
"You just got a job!" I smiled at her, and she shot me a glare.
And a cute glare at that too.
