I felt a little better after setting up Christmas with Draco, but he still looked beaten around school but would smile at me whenever he caught me watching him. The day before we left for Christmas break, was Slughorn Christmas party. Harry, Luna, Neville and I all got there together and I was looking for Hermione. "Do you see her?" I asked Neville after we'd been there for a while.
"Not yet. Why are you so worry about her? I'm sure she's fine."
"Oh, Neville sweetie." I said patting his shoulder. "You, like every other boy, are oblivious to everything." He looked at me confused and I saw her take up a hiding place behind the curtains. "I'll be back right." I told Neville and went over to her. Behind the curtain, I asked her what she was doing.
"Sorry, I've just escaped. I left Cormac under the mistletoe."
My jaw fall. "You came with Cormac? Really?"
"I thought it would annoy Ron the most. Now I realize it was bad idea."
I sighed. "Hermione, I understand you're upset and hurt but jealous never works. You should just be honest with Ron."
"I suppose you're right..... Oh, here he comes. Cover for me!" She said and slipped away. I stepped out from behind the curtain and ran right into Cormac.
"Oh. I'm sorry, McLaggen. Didn't see you, hey have you seen Hermione? I've been looking for her for ages. I can't find her."
He scoffed at me. "I don't know where she is. She left me a few minutes ago."
I faked confusion. "Maybe something came up and she was pulled away for the moment. I send her in your direction, if I see her." He said thanks and joined some friends.
After the party, we all were hanging out in the common room. Ron and Lavender, Ginny and Dean, Harry, Hermione, Neville and me. "Are you sure you can't come to the Burrow for Christmas, Haley? Mom's gonna be so disappointed." Ginny asked me.
"I know she will. But there are some things I need to put in order with Sirius' estate." I lied without hesitation. Three years of hiding my relationship from them has made lying come easily to me. We all hung out and slowly everyone went to bed. Around midnight, I heard Ginny and Dean fighting in the common room. I left the girls' dorm and listened from the stairs.
"He's my friend, Dean. He's Ron's best friend. He's coming home with us no matter what you say." Ginny yelled at him.
"I don't care, Ginny! I see the way you look at each other!" He yelled back. "I don't want you going."
She scoffed. "You can not tell me not to go home and see my parents." She stopped and said, "I can't do this anymore, Dean." He didn't fight her, he didn't say a word and I heard him coming up the steps. He went into the boys' dorm before he saw me. I went into the common room and saw Ginny sitting on the couch, she wasn't upset and she was content.
"Gin? You alright?"
She jumped at my voice and walked over to me. "I'm sorry. Did- did we wake you?"
I smiled at her. "Nah, I couldn't sleep, was coming down to read. So, are you okay?"
She smiled at me. "I am. It's been over for a while, I just couldn't admit it to myself." I linked her arm and we went upstairs to our dorm to go to bed. The next morning, we all packed up and boarded the train.
Harry and Ron in one compartment and Ginny, Hermione and me in another. "I can't believe he's still with her!" Hermione said frustrated when she came back to the compartment. Apparently Lavender had written something on the window of Ron's compartment that had set her off. "I mean she's about as thick as you can get! What does he see in her?"
